Job Overview

We are seeking a friendly and detail-oriented Deli Clerk to join our team. The ideal candidate will be responsible for providing excellent customer service, preparing food items, and maintaining a clean and organized deli area. This role is vital in ensuring our customers have a positive shopping experience and receive high-quality food products. Previous experience in food service or the food industry is preferred but not required, as training will be provided. The Deli Clerk plays a key role in upholding food safety standards and promoting sales through upselling techniques.

Duties

  • Prepare and serve a variety of deli foods, including slicing meats and cheeses, assembling sandwiches, and maintaining product freshness
  • Operate POS systems for accurate cashiering and cash handling
  • Assist customers with their selections, answer questions about products, and provide exceptional customer service
  • Maintain cleanliness and sanitation of the deli area in accordance with food safety standards
  • Restock shelves, organize displays, and ensure proper labeling of products
  • Manage time effectively to serve customers efficiently during busy periods
  • Upsell products to increase sales by suggesting complementary items or specials
  • Follow all food handling and sanitation procedures to ensure safe food preparation
  • Handle cash transactions accurately and balance cash register at the end of shifts

Qualifications

  • Previous experience in food service, restaurant, or the food industry is preferred but not mandatory
  • Strong customer service skills with a friendly attitude
  • Basic math skills for cash handling and transaction processing
  • Ability to manage time effectively in a fast-paced environment
  • Understanding of food safety standards and sanitation practices
  • Kitchen experience or food preparation skills are advantageous
  • Excellent communication skills and a team-oriented mindset
  • Ability to stand for extended periods and lift moderate weights as needed
