Full job description

At Your Table Catering | Vancouver, BC is looking for;

Private Chefs : Part-Time or Full-Time | Minimum 20-30 hours per week

$35 – $70 per hour (scaled by experience and event requirements)

About At Your Table Catering

Founded by Chef Kate, At Your Table Catering has become one of Vancouver's most respected private dining and luxury catering companies.

Chef Kate's culinary journey includes Michelin-level training in Italy and leadership positions within some of Canada's top culinary destinations, including Toronto, Whistler, and Vancouver. Her approach combines refined Italian technique, international influences, exceptional ingredients, and genuine hospitality to create unforgettable guest experiences.

From intimate private chef dinners to luxury weddings, corporate events, and exclusive celebrations, At Your Table has become known for delivering restaurant-quality dining experiences wherever the event takes place.

With a strong foundation now established, the company is expanding rapidly, and we are building a kitchen team to grow with us.

Love cooking at a high level, but not the 1 a.m. closing shifts?

At Your Table is looking for talented Chefs who want to create quality food for guests who notice every detail. You'll work in a supportive team with a schedule built around events and prep days, not the 7-day, late-night routine.

Your Schedule

Your work is built around two types of shifts:

Prep Days

  • Mostly daytime hours in our kitchen
  • Menu preparation, ordering, receiving, inventory and getting events ready

Event Days

  • Cooking and service at private homes, venues, and corporate locations
  • Some evenings and weekends, depending on the event calendar

Why You'll Love Working With Us

Work-life balance

  • A mix of daytime prep and scheduled events
  • No daily late-night closing routine

A team that actually works as a team

  • Small, close-knit crew where everyone's voice matters
  • Direct mentorship from Chef Kate

Creative, meaningful work

  • Cook with premium, seasonal ingredients
  • Every event is different, from a dinner for 8 to a wedding for 250
  • See and hear guests enjoy your food

Room to grow

  • Join a company that is expanding rapidly
  • Pay that increases with skill and responsibility
  • Real opportunities to grow into lead and senior roles as we grow

*Your hourly rate depends on your experience and the responsibility of each event:

  • Event Chef / Prep Chef: $35 – $45/hr : Prep, cooking, and plating under the direction of a lead chef
  • Private Chef (independent service): $45 – $60/hr : Running a private dinner on your own, from client's kitchen to final course
  • Lead Chef / Event Lead: $60 – $70/hr : Leading the kitchen team on large events, weddings, and corporate functions

Pay within each level scales with your experience, skills, and the requirements of each event.

What You'll Do: The Full Event Cycle

1. Before the Event: Planning & Preparation

  • Work with Chef Kate on menus, tastings, and custom client requests
  • Review event details: guest count, dietary needs, allergies, venue kitchen setup
  • Prepare ingredient orders and help with food costing
  • Complete prep according to recipes and production schedules
  • Label, store, and pack food and equipment safely for transport

2. Event Day: Setup & Service

  • Arrive on time and set up the kitchen at the client's home or venue
  • Cook, plate, and serve to Chef Kate's standards
  • Follow allergy and dietary procedures with zero shortcuts
  • Interact with hosts and guests in a warm, professional way
  • Coordinate with service staff for smooth course timing
  • On lead roles: guide and support the kitchen team

3. After the Event: Breakdown & Reset

  • Clean and leave the client's kitchen or venue spotless
  • Pack, transport, and put away equipment and leftover product
  • Record waste, inventory used, and anything that needs restocking
  • Share feedback on what went well and what to improve

4. Ongoing Responsibilities

  • Follow FOODSAFE and BC health regulations at all times
  • Keep the commercial kitchen clean, organized, and inspection-ready
  • Help document recipes and standards as we build our systems
  • Support and train newer team members

What We're Looking For

Required

  • Minimum 3 years of professional kitchen experience
  • Available for a minimum of 20-30 hours per week
  • Available for some evenings and weekends, as events require
  • FOODSAFE Level 1 certificate (or willing to obtain before starting)
  • Strong cooking fundamentals and attention to detail
  • Calm, positive attitude under pressure
  • Legally eligible to work in Canada

Nice to Have

  • Experience in banquets, catering, or private events
  • Your own vehicle and valid BC driver's licence
  • Fine dining or Italian cuisine background
  • Experience leading or training a small team
