Overview

Windley Contracting Ltd. is seeking an experienced Journeyman or Apprentice Carpenter to support our growing team.

Position Overview

The Journeyman Carpenter is responsible for performing skilled carpentry work in support of construction projects, including formwork, framing, concrete-related carpentry, temporary works, and general construction tasks. This role helps ensure work is completed safely, accurately, and in accordance with drawings, specifications, and field direction.

Journeymen Carpenters are expected to work productively, support quality workmanship, and provide practical guidance to apprentices and less experienced workers.

Key Roles and Responsibilities

Carpentry Execution

  • Perform carpentry work including layout, measuring, formwork, framing, installation, stripping, and finishing tasks as assigned.
  • Read and interpret drawings, dimensions, elevations, and field instructions.
  • Build and install work accurately and efficiently.
  • Ensure materials, tools, and work methods are used appropriately.

Quality and Productivity

  • Complete work to required tolerances, quality standards, and project expectations.
  • Identify deficiencies, conflicts, or constructability issues and advise supervision.
  • Review completed work before advancing to the next stage.
  • Maintain steady productivity while supporting safe and organized execution.

Crew Support and Mentorship

  • Assist with directing apprentices and less experienced workers in the performance of daily tasks.
  • Share knowledge and demonstrate proper methods, safe work practices, and good job habits.
  • Work cooperatively with foremen, labourers, operators, and other trades.
  • Support a professional and respectful site environment.

Safety and Housekeeping

  • Follow company safety procedures, site rules, and task-specific requirements.
  • Participate in hazard assessments and pre-task planning.
  • Maintain clean and orderly work areas.
  • Report unsafe conditions, damaged equipment, or material issues promptly.

Qualifications and Experience

  • Journeyperson carpentry certification or equivalent demonstrated carpentry experience.
  • Strong understanding of construction methods, formwork systems, layout, and general site practices.
  • Ability to read drawings and work independently with limited supervision.
  • Good communication and teamwork skills.
  • Valid driver’s licence is an asset.
