SUMMARY
We are urgently looking for 3 Test Technician/Troubleshooters to start immediately on afternoon shift. The Test Technician/Troubleshooter will work closely with the Test Engineering Team to setup, validate and perform detailed functional testing and troubleshooting using various measurement instrumentation to support production requirements manufactured by VEXOS. The core of this job is running diagnostic tests and performing routine troubleshooting of system issues. This may require the ability to interpret complex documents such as technical schematics and follow precise instructions well. This position reports to the Production/Test Supervisor/Leader or designate.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Maintain the test schedule as instructed by the Test Supervisor on a daily basis.
- Set up, validate, and maintain test stations as per product and customer specifications.
- Ensure that each board is properly scanned through the MES (Manufacturing Execution System); record all test failures accurately and in a timely manner.
- Perform detailed troubleshooting and repair of PCB assemblies to the component level, including analog, digital, and power circuits.
- Analyze functional and electrical failures using schematics, PCB layouts, BOMs, and datasheets.
- Identify faulty components such as ICs, resistors, capacitors, connectors, and power devices.
- Perform PCB rework including soldering, de‑soldering, fine‑pitch components, and BGA inspection/rework using approved methods.
- Mount boards on backplanes or test fixtures and perform electrical checks (e.g., continuity, diode checks, decoupling, and power integrity).
- Validate repairs through functional, electrical, and system‑level testing using standard and specialized test equipment.
- Operate and troubleshoot using oscilloscopes, digital multimeters, hi‑pot testers, programmable power supplies, LCR meters, logic analyzers, and other related instruments.
- Perform failure analysis, document root cause analysis (RCA), and recommend or implement corrective actions to prevent recurrence.
- Work closely with Test Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, and Quality teams (via the Test Supervisor) to resolve recurring or complex production issues.
- Support production and quality teams in resolving defects, NCMRs, and yield-related issues.
- Ensure all testing and troubleshooting activities comply with documented test procedures, quality standards, and ESD control practices.
- Handle, transport, and store ESD‑sensitive materials and assemblies in accordance with ESD safety procedures.
- Maintain excellent housekeeping practices in all work areas.
- Report equipment issues, process deviations, and test anomalies to the supervisor promptly.
- Apply a logical, methodical, and data‑driven approach to troubleshooting, including situations with limited documentation.
- Perform other relevant tasks as required to support production and operational needs.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, EXPERIENCE AND EDUCATION
- Diploma or Degree in Electronics Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related discipline.
- 3–5+ years of hands‑on experience in electronics testing, troubleshooting, and component‑level PCB repair within a manufacturing or engineering environment.
- Strong knowledge of electronic assemblies including through‑hole, SMT, and fine‑pitch components.
- Demonstrated experience in failure analysis, root cause investigation, and corrective action implementation.
- Ability to read and interpret schematics, PCB layouts, and test documentation.
- Solid understanding of analog and digital circuit design, including power distribution and signal integrity basics.
- Knowledge of power electronics, including VRMs, DC‑DC converters, and voltage regulators.
- Familiarity with high‑speed interfaces (e.g., PCIe, HDMI, Ethernet, DDR) and common communication protocols (SPI, I²C, UART).
- Experience working with FPGA- or ASIC‑based boards is considered an asset.
- Proven ability to troubleshoot complex issues with limited or incomplete documentation.
- Experience using a broad range of test and debug tools, including:
- Oscilloscopes, digital multimeters, LCR meters
- Bench power supplies with current limiting
- Logic analyzers (SPI, I²C, UART decoding)
- Short locator / sniffer tools
- EEPROM / Flash programmers (e.g., Dediprog SF100 / SF600)
- JTAG programmers and debuggers
- Familiarity with spectrum analyzers, vector network analyzers (VNA), and signal generators is an asset.
- Hands‑on experience with soldering stations, hot‑air rework stations, BGA rework, microscopes, and desoldering tools (wick, pump).
- Experience with functional test systems, ICT tools, and production test environments.
- Knowledge of IPC‑A‑610 and IPC‑7711/7721 standards; strong microscope inspection skills.
- Familiarity with quality systems, ISO requirements, and ESD control standards.
- Experience with firmware application software; Linux experience is an asset.
- Proficiency in MS Office applications and basic production/test reporting tools.
- Strong analytical, problem‑solving, communication, and documentation skills.
- Excellent work habits, attention to detail, and commitment to quality and safety.
