Full job description

Freelance Burmese Language Interpreters- In-Person/Onsite

911 Interpreters is seeking to engage services of experienced Language Interpreters for in-person/Onsite services in waterloo and surrounding areas.

Not a language interpreter but interested in becoming one?

If you speak another language proficiently, we offer a comprehensive training program where you can learn the basics of language interpretation and embark on a rewarding new career path. Feel free to apply and ask for more information. This is your chance to grow and learn in a dynamic field.

All other languages are also welcome to apply.

Requirements:

  • Medical Interpreter Certificate is preferred
  • Medical/Legal/Educational interpretation experience
  • HIPPA certification preferred
  • Post-secondary education

Responsibilities

  • Use your language skills to enable communication
  • Support people in your community in their communication needs
  • Interpret accurately and impartially everything said by the parties involved
  • Appointments take place in healthcare, community support, and education settings, among others
  • Excell in language skills by mastering your working languages and terminology

Skills

  • ability to closely follow client's instructions
  • skills to interact well with people and work as part of a team
  • ability to use discretion and maintain confidentiality on the matters you are interpreting
  • flexibility to deal calmly with unexpected and difficult situations

  • assimilating words quickly, including jargon and acronyms
  • building up specialized vocabulary banks
  • use of the Internet to conduct research and prepare glossaries before the assignment
