HEABC leads and supports the strategic planning related to human resources and labour relations on behalf of British Columbia’s publicly funded health employers. HEABC is responsible for negotiating provincial agreements for 138,000 unionized health care employees including nurses, physician residents, ambulance paramedics, health science professionals, and more.
HEABC’s Human Resources, Strategies and Services (HRSS) department is responsible for the implementation and management of several provincial programs that support the recruitment and retention of health professionals in British Columbia. The department is home to the Practice Ready Assessment-British Columbia (PRA-BC) program that assesses internationally trained physicians for provisional licensure to work in communities across BC. As a program, PRA-BC has assessed over 300 family physicians since its inception in 2015. These family physicians were placed in 77 communities throughout BC.
We are currently in need of team members who have a passion for customer service and a keen interest in making an impact across communities in BC.
The successful candidate may be permitted to work in a hybrid model (combination of in-office and flexible work location) and will live within commuting distance of our Vancouver office. This position will have a mandatory 3-month onsite training period.

OPPORTUNITY:
HEABC has an opening for a Recruitment Assistant in the PRA-BC program for a 12-month contract. Reporting to PRA-BC’s Program Manager, the Recruitment Assistant will act as a central point of contact for many program candidates and external partners, and will provide excellent customer service in all forms of communication. If you enjoy working with people from diverse cultures and backgrounds, this is the job for you.
The ideal candidate will:
- Bring experience and expertise in organization and coordination.
- Possess the ability to manage shifting priorities and workloads.
- Be highly tech-savvy, comfortable with MS Office 365 and skilled at utilizing technology to execute and streamline administrative processes.
- Have experience working in a team-based environment and delivering excellent customer service.
Responsibilities include:
- Supporting the application and documentation processes for internationally educated and practicing physicians (called International Medical Graduates – IMGs).
- Maintaining the database and filing systems.
- Assisting in the collection and organization of licensing and immigration paperwork.
- Tracking candidates’ progress throughout the program’s lifecycle.
- Responding to general inquiries from partners, interested applicants, and program candidates.
- Working independently and collaboratively with PRA-BC team members and other staff in the larger department.
- Taking a proactive approach to working across teams and helping to ensure PRA-BC functions efficiently and effectively.
Knowledge and experience with healthcare recruitment is preferred, but not required.
Required Knowledge and Experience:
- Successful completion of grade twelve (12) supplemented by human resources or business training and three years’ recent, related experience or a combination of education, training and experience.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills and the ability to work with clients from a variety of countries and cultures is critical.
- Intermediate to advanced knowledge of Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint, Outlook and confident in learning new software and online systems.
- Ability to apply discretion in dealing with personal and confidential documentation.
- Must be well-organized and able to work under minimal supervision.
- Must demonstrate a high degree of accuracy and attention to detail.
- Familiarity with social media an asset.

Salary Range: $49,445 to $64,896
Typical Hiring Range: $49,445 to $61,806
In determining salary, HEABC considers many factors including the successful candidate’s skillset and experience as well as internal equity. The final salary offer will be at HEABC’s sole discretion and presented as part of a competitive total compensation package.
