Job Summary

Graf Mechanical Ltd. is seeking a NDT Inspector to join our team supporting heavy mining equipment maintenance and repair in the Fort McMurray oil sands region. The successful candidate will perform non-destructive testing on critical mining assets (haul trucks, shovels, buckets, booms, structural components, welds, etc.) to ensure safety, reliability, and regulatory compliance. This role is essential in supporting our clients’ operations with high-quality inspections in a fast-paced industrial environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Perform NDT inspections using methods such as Ultrasonic Testing (UT), Magnetic Particle Testing (MT), Liquid Penetrant Testing (PT), and Visual Testing (VT) on mining equipment and components.
  • Inspect welds, structural steel, mobile equipment, booms, buckets, frames, and other critical assets during maintenance, repairs, and shutdowns.
  • Interpret test results, evaluate defects against acceptance criteria, and provide clear recommendations for repairs or further action.
  • Document inspections thoroughly, including reports, photos, and records for client and internal compliance.
  • Work closely with welders, mechanics, and the maintenance team to support timely repairs and minimize equipment downtime.
  • Maintain NDT equipment and ensure calibration standards are met.
  • Adhere to all safety protocols, site procedures, and quality standards in the oil sands environment.
  • Participate in safety meetings and contribute to a strong safety culture.

Requirements & Qualifications

  • Certification: CGSB Level 1 (or higher) in relevant NDT methods (UT, MT, PT, VT preferred).
  • Experience: Minimum 2 years of hands-on NDT inspection experience.
  • Mining, heavy equipment, oil sands, or industrial maintenance experience is strongly preferred.
  • Strong knowledge of NDT techniques applied to heavy equipment and weld inspection.
  • Ability to read and interpret technical drawings, weld procedures, and inspection standards.
  • Excellent attention to detail, communication skills, and ability to work independently or as part of a team.
  • Physically fit and comfortable working in industrial/field conditions (heights, confined spaces, outdoor environments).

Education: High school diploma or equivalent required. Relevant technical training in NDT or heavy equipment is an asset.

Work Schedule

  • 14 days on × 14 days off rotation (primarily day shifts, 12-hour shifts).
  • Possibility of some night shifts when required by project needs.

Must-Have Tickets / Training

  • Valid CSTS (Construction Safety Training System) or equivalent.
  • WHMIS, Fall Protection, Confined Space, and other site-specific tickets as required.
  • Clean driver’s abstract and ability to obtain necessary site clearances.

What We Offer (at Graf Mechanical Ltd.)

  • Competitive compensation package (to be discussed based on experience and certifications).
  • Opportunity to work with a family-run company that values safety, quality, and long-term employee growth.
  • Hands-on work supporting major oil sands clients with meaningful impact on equipment reliability.
  • Rotation-based work typical of Fort McMurray operations.

If this sounds like a good fit, we encourage you to apply!
