Intermediate Mechanical Engineer (P.Eng.) – Industrial Systems

The Opportunity

QES is seeking a Intermediate Mechanical Engineer (P.Eng.) to support continued growth across industrial projects.

This is a hands-on, field-oriented role combining:

  • Mechanical system design
  • Site inspections and commissioning
  • Project management
  • Client-facing engineering delivery

Key Responsibilities

Mechanical Engineering

  • Design industrial steam systems, including boilers (various fuels), piping, valves, strainers, and instrumentation
  • Design industrial compressed air systems, including compressors, dryers, and coolers
  • Design industrial piping systems, including process piping, sanitary piping, and potable water systems
  • Develop P&ID drawings and functional descriptions for complete systems
  • Perform pipe stress analysis
  • Prepare supply and installation cost estimates
  • Produce and review AutoCAD drawings (2D/3D)

Field Work & Commissioning

  • Conduct onsite review, inspection, and commissioning of industrial mechanical installations
  • Verify installations for code compliance, safety, and performance
  • Troubleshoot issues during construction and startup

Project & Technical Leadership

  • Support engineering quality oversight and team coordination
  • Review and seal engineering documents (P.Eng.)
  • Lead or support project management for industrial mechanical installations
  • Manage project schedules, deliverables, and client expectations
  • Interface with clients, vendors, and regulatory authorities

QualificationsRequired

  • Canadian P.Eng. designation (mandatory)
  • 7+ years of relevant experience
  • Strong experience in:
  • Steam systems
  • Compressed air systems
  • Industrial piping design
  • Exceptional English writing and communication skills
  • Ability and willingness to travel internationally

Strong Assets

  • U.S. Professional Engineer (PE) designation
  • Experience in the Food Processing Industry
  • Refrigeration
  • Industrial site surveys
  • Field inspection and commissioning
  • Pipe stress analysis
  • Project management of industrial installations
  • Proficiency in: AutoCAD (2D/3D) (beneficial but not required)
