Industrial Designer / CAD Designer – Custom Products

Tresco Consoles – Calgary, Alberta
Full-Time | In-Person

Tresco Consoles is looking for an experienced Industrial Designer / CAD Designer to join our Design team in Calgary.

We design and manufacture custom technical furniture and control-room consoles for customers throughout North America. Our projects combine industrial design, 3D modelling, product visualization, millwork, sheet metal and custom manufacturing.

This is more than a drafting position. We are looking for someone who can take a customer requirement and turn it into a professional, well-developed design—from initial concepts and proposal drawings through 3D modelling, rendering, revisions and ultimately a product that can be manufactured.

What You'll Do

  • Develop custom console and furniture concepts based on customer requirements.
  • Create professional proposal drawings, layouts and presentation material.
  • Produce high-quality 3D product renderings and visualizations.
  • Create and modify 3D models using Autodesk Inventor.
  • Create and revise 2D drawings and layouts using AutoCAD.
  • Interpret architectural drawings, specifications and customer requirements.
  • Work with Sales to develop concepts and respond to customer design requests.
  • Incorporate customer feedback and revisions into existing designs.
  • Ensure designs are practical, manufacturable and ready to move into production.
  • Work closely with Design and Manufacturing as projects progress from proposal through production.
  • Support approval drawings, shop drawings and production design when required.
  • Assist with custom projects, product development and new design concepts.
  • Manage multiple active projects and changing priorities.

What We're Looking For

  • Strong AutoCAD skills.
  • Experience with Autodesk Inventor, SolidWorks or similar parametric 3D CAD software.
  • Strong 3D modelling skills.
  • Experience creating professional customer-facing drawings or presentations.
  • Good understanding of how products are manufactured and assembled.
  • Strong design sense, attention to detail and problem-solving ability.
  • Ability to interpret architectural drawings and specifications.
  • Ability to take a project from initial concept through multiple customer revisions.
  • Ability to work independently while collaborating with Sales, Design and Manufacturing.

Experience with custom furniture, millwork, cabinetry, architectural products, sheet metal or other manufactured products is a strong asset.

3D Rendering & Visualization

Experience producing professional product renderings is an important part of this position.

Experience with 3ds Max is a strong asset but is not required. Experience with KeyShot, V-Ray, Blender, Twinmotion or similar visualization software will also be considered.

We care more about your ability to create an accurate, professional and convincing final presentation than the specific rendering software you use.

Animation or advanced product visualization experience is an additional asset.

Education & Experience

A diploma or degree in Industrial Design, Engineering Technology, Architectural Technology, CAD/Drafting, Product Design or a related field is preferred.

Equivalent industry experience will also be considered. Experience designing products that are actually manufactured is especially valuable.

Portfolio Required

Please include a portfolio or examples of previous work with your application.

We would particularly like to see examples of:

  • 3D product designs
  • Product renderings or visualizations
  • Customer presentation drawings
  • Furniture, millwork or cabinetry
  • Manufactured products
  • CAD assemblies or technical drawings

Why This Role Is Different

You won't simply be drawing parts from instructions.

We are looking for someone who can understand what the customer is trying to achieve, identify potential design problems, develop practical solutions and create products that look great and can actually be built.

Projects range from modifications of existing products to completely custom consoles and new product concepts.
