Ethnic Cook – South Indian Cuisine (Restaurant)

Location: Montreal, Quebec

Wage: $34.62 per hour

Hours: 35 hours per week

Employment Type: Full-time, Permanent

Overview:

Thanjai Restaurant is a Montreal based company with over 15 years of experience in the food industry. We are a snack manufacturing facility specializing in traditional South Indian snacks. We are seeking an experienced ethnic cook with strong expertise in South Indian cuisine. The selected candidate will be responsible for preparing, cooking, and producing a variety of authentic South Indian snacks.

Main Duties

  • Prepare and cook traditional South Indian snacks such as murukku, mixture, sev, vadai, banana chips, pakoda, ribbon pakoda, and other regional specialties.
  • Follow standardized recipes and production procedures to ensure consistent quality and taste.
  • Operate industrial food production equipment including fryers, mixers, grinders, extruders, and shaping machines.
  • Monitor cooking temperatures, frying times, and production conditions to maintain food safety and product quality.
  • Prepare spice mixes, batters, doughs, and other ingredients specific to South Indian snack production.
  • Inspect raw materials and report any issues related to quality or non-conformity.
  • Maintain a clean and organized workstation in compliance with sanitation, safety, and food-handling standards.
  • Assist in portioning, cooling, and pre-packaging products before they are transferred to the packaging team.

Requirements

  • Minimum 3 years of experience in South Indian cooking, preferably in a snack production environment.
  • Strong knowledge of traditional South Indian ingredients, spices, techniques, and snack preparation methods.
  • Ability to work efficiently in a food production facility.
  • Knowledge of English to read recipes, safety procedures, and production guidelines.
  • Attention to detail, good organization, and ability to work in a fast-paced environment.
