Full job description

Freelance Franchise Development Consultant (Canada) Dessert39 | Remote | Contract

Company Overview

Dessert39 is one of South Korea's fastest-growing premium dessert & café franchise brands, operating 400+ stores nationwide. With strong brand recognition in Korea and rising global interest in Korean lifestyle café concepts, Dessert39 is preparing strategic expansion into Canada through Master Franchise and Area Developer partnerships.

Role Overview

We are seeking experienced freelance franchise development consultants based in Canada to support Dessert39's market entry by identifying and introducing qualified Master Franchise or Area Developer partners. This is a remote, contract-based role designed for professionals who already work within the F&B, café, retail, or franchise ecosystem and have strong local networks.

Key Responsibilities

  • Identify potential Master Franchise / Area Developer candidates across Canada
  • Introduce Dessert39 to qualified franchise groups, multi-unit operators, or investors
  • Coordinate and support meetings with Dessert39 HQ (Korea)
  • Provide local market insights (franchise structure, provincial regulations, real estate trends, consumer behavior)
  • Support early-stage discussions through the evaluation and negotiation phase

This role focuses on strategic introductions and advisory-level support, not cold calling or mass outreach.

Requirements

  • Based in Canada, operating as an independent contractor in compliance with CRA (Canada Revenue Agency) guidelines
  • Proven experience in franchise development, F&B, café chains, or retail expansion
  • Strong network with multi-unit operators, franchise groups, investors, or retail real estate professionals
  • Experience in B2B sales, partnerships, or market entry consulting
  • Understanding of Canadian franchise disclosure requirements, which apply in six provinces (Ontario — under the Arthur Wishart Act, Alberta, British Columbia, Manitoba, New Brunswick, and Prince Edward Island), as well as Area Developer and master franchise models
  • Comfortable working on a commission-based / success-fee model
  • Excellent communication skills in English; bilingual French-English capability is a strong asset for Quebec market coverage (note: Quebec does not have a dedicated franchise disclosure statute, but is governed by the Civil Code of Quebec)

Work Arrangement

  • Freelance / Independent Contractor
  • Fully remote
  • Outcome-based (no fixed working hours)
  • Project-based engagement

Compensation

  • Commission-based (Success Fee)
  • Competitive success fee paid per signed Master Franchise or Area Developer agreement
  • No base salary or hourly compensation is provided for this role
  • Contractors are responsible for managing their own tax filings with the CRA

Target Market

  • Canada (nationwide)
  • Initial focus on major metro areas with strong café culture and franchise demand, including the Greater Toronto Area, Metro Vancouver, Calgary, Edmonton, Ottawa, and Montreal

Why Work With Dessert39

  • Proven franchise brand with 400+ stores in Korea
  • Strong Canadian demand for Korean and Asian café concepts, particularly in multicultural urban markets
  • Clear franchise expansion strategy with HQ-level support
  • Fast decision-making and flexible collaboration structure
  • Performance-driven compensation with high upside in Canada's mature, well-regulated franchise market

How to Apply

Please include:

  • Your current province and city in Canada
  • Relevant experience in franchise / F&B / business development
  • Brief description of your professional network
  • Whether you have bilingual (English/French) capability for Quebec coverage
  • Confirmation that you are open to a commission-based engagement

Shortlisted candidates will be contacted for an introductory discussion.
