About the Elizabeth Fry Society of Northern Alberta:
The Elizabeth Fry Society of Northern Alberta (EFry) is a non-profit organization dedicated to supporting and empowering women, girls, and gender-diverse folks who are criminalized or at risk. EFry provides programs and services that address the root causes of crime, promote healing and reintegration, and strengthen community safety.
Position Summary:
EFry is seeking to hire Financial Literacy Program Coordinators based in Edmonton, Red Deer, Fort McMurray and other communities across Northern and Central Alberta to lead the planning, implementation, and delivery of financial literacy services for women and gender-diverse individuals. These positions will focus on improving clients’ financial well-being through education, advocacy, and hands-on support.
The coordinators will be responsible for running community tax clinics in community and in prisons, helping clients access financial benefits and income supports, and facilitating both group workshops and individual coaching sessions on financial literacy, budgeting, debt reduction, goal setting, and stress management.
The program will focus on community-based financial empowerment and practical supports to help women and gender-diverse clients thrive. Applying an Indigenous worldview through the facilitation of this program is critical to addressing the over-representation of Indigenous women affected by victimization, criminalization, and poverty.
Key Responsibilities:
Program Delivery and Coordination:
- Plan, organize, and facilitate financial literacy workshops in-person and online.
- Coordinate and operate tax clinics for clients and community members.
- Support clients in accessing financial benefits, subsidies, and income support programs.
- Develop and maintain up-to-date materials and resources to support financial education.
- Build and maintain partnerships within community and collaborative organizations.
Client Support and Advocacy:
- Provide individualized case management, and referrals.
- Help clients identify goals, create budgets, and develop strategies for financial independence.
- Advocate on behalf of clients with benefit programs or financial institutions as needed.
- Maintain a trauma-informed, non-judgmental approach to support all clients.
Community Engagement and Reporting:
- Network with community agencies, EFry coordinators, and stakeholders to support collaboration and referrals.
- Participate in community and interagency meetings to stay current on local resources.
- Track outcomes and submit monthly statistical reports.
- Assist with program evaluation and improvement initiatives.
- Attend EFry team meetings, events, and agency priorities as required.
- Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
- Post-secondary education in Human Services, Sociology, Criminology, Psychology, or a related field. We honor and appreciate equivalencies.
- 3–5 years’ experience in a professional or community-based role, preferably within the non-profit sector.
-Strong base of cultural competence, Indigenous worldviews, and Two-Eyed Seeing.
- Strong understanding of financial literacy topics including budgeting, credit, debt management, and tax filing.
- Knowledge of federal and provincial income supports and community benefit programs.
- Excellent communication, organization, and facilitation skills.
- Ability to work independently while collaborating with a regional team.
- Valid driver’s license, vehicle, and proof of insurance required.
- Must be eligible for a security clearance.
- Flexibility to work some evenings or weekends as needed.
What We Offer:
- Meaningful work that directly supports women’s financial independence and stability.
- A supportive and inclusive work environment.
- Benefits available after the successful completion of a probationary period.
If you’re passionate about empowering women through financial education and community connection, we encourage you to apply and join the EFry team in making a difference. Please email your resume and cover letter to hr@efrynorthernalberta.com. Applications without a cover letter will not be considered.
