Full job description

About Us

Herb is a cannabis media and marketing company. We’ve been in the space for over a decade, built an audience of 14 million, and spent that time figuring out what actually works for cannabis brands in an environment where Google and Meta mostly won’t take your money.

Herb Agency is the marketing services arm. We run paid media, SEO, programmatic, email, and content for cannabis brands, dispensaries, accessory companies, hemp companies, and other businesses operating in regulated categories. It’s a real business with real clients - and we’re hiring because it’s growing.

The Role

This is an individual contributor role. You’ll report directly to the Director of Sales, and your job is to go find business - not wait for it. That means building your own pipeline, running deals, and closing them.

We’re not going to hand you a warm book on day one. During ramp-up, the expectation is that you’re generating your own leads and booking your own meetings. Once you’ve shown you can do that, you’ll have an SDR feeding you additional pipeline. It’s not about proving yourself for the sake of it - we want to know you can generate meetings independently, because that skill matters throughout the role, not just at the start.

Once deals are signed, a CSM team handles delivery. You'll support CS through the early months to ensure a clean handoff and help build the relationship, but CS becomes the primary contact and owns client success. You're there to back them up, not carry the weight.

We’re looking for someone 2–3 years in, ideally with agency or digital marketing experience. If you’re coming from a different background but your sales fundamentals are genuinely strong, we’re open to talking - just know the learning curve on the product side will be steeper without that context.

What You'll do

Finding and closing new business

  • Prospect into cannabis brands, dispensaries, accessory companies, hemp companies, and other regulated categories - outbound is a big part of the job
  • Generate your own leads and book your own meetings, particularly during ramp-up
  • Run discovery calls, build proposals, and close deals across our media, SEO, and advertising products
  • Work with the SDR once you’re ramped - give direction, use what they surface, and stay on top of your pipeline
  • Use whatever tools make you sharper, including AI, for research and outreach

Owning the relationship after the deal

  • Stay close to accounts you bring in, especially in the first few months
  • Handle the handoff to CSM properly so clients don’t feel dropped
  • Flag upsell opportunities and surface problems before they become churn

Keeping your house in order

  • Log everything in HubSpot - calls, notes, stage changes, next steps
  • Know where your number stands at any point in the month
  • Be honest about what’s real pipeline and what isn’t

What We Need

The baseline:

  • 2–3 years in a closing role, preferably at a digital marketing agency or in a marketing services environment
  • You’ve built pipeline yourself before - not just worked inbound or inherited accounts
  • Comfortable prospecting into cannabis brands, dispensaries, accessory companies, hemp companies, and similar regulated businesses
  • You're comfortable selling solutions in the $5,000 to $25,000 MRR range - deals that are real money for clients but don't require executive air cover to close.
  • You can run a sales process start to finish without needing to be walked through each stage
  • Clean CRM habits - you don’t need to be reminded to log your calls
  • You can hold a real conversation with a marketing director at a cannabis brand and understand what’s actually going on in their business
  • Clear communicator - on calls and in writing - who makes things simpler, not more complicated

Good to have:

  • Agency or digital marketing background - you’ve sold media, SEO, paid, programmatic, or similar
  • Experience in cannabis, hemp, or another regulated category where mainstream ad platforms are restricted
  • Existing relationships with cannabis brands, dispensaries, or accessory companies
  • You’ve worked in a structured SDR/AE motion before

Logistics:

  • This is a contractor role - you’ll need your own equipment (laptop, headset, reliable internet)
  • Fully remote - work from anywhere

What You'll Get

  • Base + commission - OTE shared during the process
  • SDR support once you’re ramped, plus a CSM team handling delivery
  • A product that exists because the alternatives don’t work for cannabis brands and dispensaries - it’s an easier sell than most
  • Direct line to the Director of Sales - no layers, no hand-holding
  • A small team, which means less politics and more ownership over what you build
