We are seeking a skilled and dedicated Hydrovac Operator to join our team. The ideal candidate will be responsible for operating hydrovac trucks to safely excavate and expose underground utilities while adhering to safety protocols and regulations. This role requires a strong mechanical aptitude, attention to detail, and the ability to work effectively in various environments.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Perform hydrovac excavation duties safely around underground utilities, pipelines, oil and gas and cables and Sloughing.
  • Conduct pre-trip inspections and equipment checks in accordance with company procedures
  • Use bonding and grounding equipment appropriately and consistently
  • Adhere to all applicable safety standards, including Alberta OH&S regulations SOPs
  • Accurately complete and submit daily reports, inspections, and other required documentation
  • Read and interpret utility locates, drawings, and schematics to ensure safe and precise excavation
  • Provide courteous, professional service as a representative of C. Wiseman Enterpirses Ltd.
  • Support and mentor less experienced team members, including operators and swampers
  • Collaborate with coworkers to ensure safe and efficient site operations
  • Perform basic preventative maintenance and troubleshooting of hydrovac units
  • Maintain cleanliness and readiness of tools, equipment and Hydrovac units, vehicles
  • Maintain clean and safe equipment
  • Work effectively with supervisors, clients, and crew members.
  • SAFETY FOR EVERYONE IS OUR FIRST PRIORITY.

REQUIREMENTS

  • 3 years of relevant experience, including at least 2 years operating Hydrovac equipment in the field
  • Experience in the utility or construction industry
  • Valid Class 1 or 3 driver’s license with a clean driver’s abstract
  • Experience operating tri-drive vehicles and manual transmissions
  • Ability to interpret utility locates and read technical schematics
  • Familiar with bonding, grounding, and confined space entry protocols and Sloughing.
  • Strong safety focus and knowledge of applicable regulations
  • Capable of working independently under physically demanding conditions
  • Mechanical aptitude for minor repairs and maintenance
  • Experience mentoring junior operators or working as part of a field operations team
  • Attending safety meetings
  • Preparing work areas by setting up safety measures and addressing potential hazards
  • Must be able to lift, push, pull 50+ pounds and have the physical stamina for manual labor in varying weather conditions
