Kohai Educational Centres a small charity which has been teaching skills to improve the lives of people with cognitive, social and skills for independence for over 50 years. For eight years now we have been working exclusively with adults with special needs in our Kohai LIFE programme. This full-time programme offers support in recreation, social and job skills. Our participants benefit from a comprehensive programme, which offers group activities, work placements and social events. We address functional academic skills to maintain and build skills. Our goal is to help young adults, 18+years, achieve a more interactive, involved and fulfilled life within the community. We also offer evening social programmes, twice a week. The successful candidate will be part of the team working some evenings.

Job description

The successful candidate must have related academic qualifications and a minimum of 2 years relevant experience. They will work in a team; teaching and helping young adults achieve recreational, social and vocational skills. We use a behavioural approach with the principles of ABA, teaching individual skills in small groups. There is community involvement at work placements and work skills are taught on site. Experience with individuals who live with autism and other challenges is necessary. We offer staff training to support the role. we will require at least 2 recent work related refernces. Only those called for interview will be contacted.

Responsibilities:

  • Work with small groups of adults (approximate age range 21years to 32years)
  • Prepare individuals for work placements or activities in the community
  • Work in a closely-knit professional team
  • Communicate with parents, colleagues and management verbally and in writing
  • Set clear deliverable goals to achieve best outcome
  • Ability to work flexible hours within a 40 hour week

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $55,000.00-$63,000.00 per year
