Children’s House Teacher

(1 Year Contract)

(This position will commence late August 2026)

Overview

Reporting to the Head of Toddler and Children’s House, the Children’s House Teacher will work with students, parents, and teachers to help students reach their full potential in the Program. This is a full time, contract basis for one year.

Key Responsibilities and Tasks:

  • Providing students an educational experience designed to inspire and challenge students to discover the best of who they are and to achieve their full potential
  • Ensuring a welcoming classroom environment in a manner that reflects Lauremont School’s commitment to supporting students and their families, and the motto “I am Known”
  • Supporting the growth and development of individual learners through the delivery of the Montessori philosophy
  • Participating actively in faculty and department meetings to plan, review and enhance the written curriculum
  • Establishing good relationships with teachers, staff and parents across the school community
  • Being an active and positive participant in the community life of our school

#1 - Responsibilities – Classroom

  • Plan, organize and provide beneficial learning experiences within assigned areas of responsibility
  • Foster a supportive and collaborative classroom learning environment
  • Establish and maintain an orderly and attractive classroom mindful of the principles of Montessori
  • Maintain appropriate student behaviour through effective classroom management
  • Determine, plan and implement a variety of student assessment strategies to meet programme needs of students
  • Evaluate and interpret student learning and development in a professional manner
  • Maintain regular and accurate records of student progress, including lesson plans
  • Communicate student progress to parents through parent teacher interviews and report cards
  • Write up and submit to Academic Head , all parent interviews, following prescribed procedure and format
  • Maintain CCEYA documentation (Toddler and Children’s House 1)
  • Implement Individual Support Plans (ISPs) for students with learning differences, as well as medical plans.
  • Follow all CCEYA and York Region Health protocols

# 2 - Responsibilities – School Community

  • Develop and maintain a standard of professional behaviour, within and beyond the classroom, which exemplifies Montessori and International Baccalaureate principles
  • Promote and create a collegial and supportive environment with co-assistants and teachers from other grade levels
  • Establish and maintain an orderly and attractive school environment in accordance with Montessori principles
  • Participate in community activities, related but not limited to, student development, parent education and public relations
  • Work collaboratively with colleagues to evaluate the golden thread in our school curriculum
  • Seek out and participate in co-curricular activities each academic year for the benefit of students and the school community
  • Determine and participate in professional development activities to support personal growth as well as the growth and development of the School.

Education/Experience/Qualifications

  • MACTE approved Montessori Teacher Certification (Primary or Early Childhood)
  • Undergraduate Degree
  • ECE Diploma and familiarity with the CCEYA Act considered an asset
  • Experience teaching children aged 18 months to 6 years
  • A demonstrated passion for working with children
  • The ability to collaborate and contribute as a team player
  • A proven professional approach and work ethic
  • Commitment to ongoing professional development and goal setting in line with Lauremont School’s vision
  • A satisfactory current Vulnerable Sector Police Record Check
  • A satisfactory current Child Welfare Record Check from CAS
  • Current First Aid, CPR, and AED certificate
  • Health assessment and up-to-date immunization requirements set out in the CCEYA & York Region Public Health prior to employment

The salary range is based on our current salary grid and ranges from $54,268 to $126,719, with placement on the grid determined by qualifications and years of eligible and related experience.
