Assistant Outlet Manager

Hotel Equities, a multi-award-winning hotel development and hospitality management company, is currently searching for a remarkable full-time Assistant Outlet Manager to support our Bistro, culinary, and banquet operations at Courtyard by Marriott located in Nanaimo, BC

This is a working leadership position for someone who enjoys leading while on the floor. One shift may involve leading Bistro service and assisting guests, while another may require supporting the culinary team, coordinating a banquet, or helping wherever business demands are greatest.

The Assistant Outlet Manager will help maintain consistent food quality, efficient service, clean and safe work areas, and a positive experience for both guests and team members.

Responsibilities

  • Assist with the opening, closing, and daily supervision of the Bistro, kitchen, bar, patio, and banquet areas.
  • Lead shifts, assign duties, conduct pre-shift meetings, and maintain clear communication between front-of-house and culinary team members.
  • Work alongside the Bistro team by greeting guests, serving, clearing tables, processing payments, and assisting during busy periods.
  • Support culinary operations with food preparation, cooking, plating, dishwashing, cleaning, receiving, storage, and line coverage when required.
  • Monitor food quality, taste, temperature, portioning, presentation, ticket times, and menu standards.
  • Review Banquet Event Orders and coordinate event setup, food and beverage service, room refreshes, breakdown, and cleanup.
  • Welcome event contacts, remain available throughout functions, and respond promptly to requests or changes.
  • Assist with scheduling, recruitment, onboarding, training, coaching, and performance feedback.
  • Monitor staffing and labour based on hotel occupancy, Bistro activity, and banquet requirements.
  • Maintain clean, organized, properly stocked, and guest-ready restaurant, kitchen, storage, and banquet areas.
  • Assist with purchasing, receiving, inventories, product rotation, storage, waste control, and operating supplies.
  • Follow established procedures for cash, credit, room charges, discounts, tips, point-of-sale transactions, and shift documentation.
  • Resolve guest concerns promptly and professionally.
  • Ensure food safety, responsible alcohol service, workplace safety, accessibility, and hotel policies are followed.
  • Identify equipment or facility concerns and follow up with Maintenance and hotel leadership.
  • Assist with menu development, seasonal features, promotions, specials, and other food and beverage initiatives.
  • Participate in the hotel’s Manager on Duty program when assigned.

Qualifications

  • At least one year of previous food and beverage experience in a restaurant, hotel, banquet, or culinary operation.
  • Previous supervisory or team-lead experience is preferred.
  • Experience working across front-of-house, kitchen, and banquet operations is an asset.
  • Strong communication, organization, and guest-service skills.
  • A practical leadership style and willingness to work directly alongside the team.
  • Ability to manage competing priorities and make sound decisions during busy service periods.
  • Working knowledge of food safety, sanitation, responsible alcohol service, inventory, and cost controls.
  • Experience with Micros Simphony or another point-of-sale system is an asset.
  • Valid FOODSAFE and Serving It Right certifications, or the ability to obtain both within the required timeframe.
  • High school diploma or equivalent; related post-secondary education is an asset.
  • Legally entitled to work in Canada.

Availability

This position requires flexible availability based on hotel, Bistro, and banquet activity. Shifts may include

early mornings, evenings, weekends, and holidays. Priority will be given to applicants who are available

across all food and beverage operating periods.


Physical Requirements

The position involves standing and walking for extended periods, along with frequent reaching, bending, carrying, pushing, pulling, and repetitive hand movements. Candidates must be able to lift and carry objects weighing up to 50 pounds and work safely around heat, steam, hot surfaces, sharp objects, cleaning products, wet floors, and changing temperatures.
