Animal Care Attendant

King Animal Hospital is seeking passionate and experienced Animal Care Attendant to join our team!

King Animal Hospital is a privately owned Equine and Small Animal Referral and Emergency Hospital. The hospital is a 60,000-square-foot, state-of-the-art facility situated on 50 acres in King City, Ontario.

As an ACA, you will be able to provide excellent patient care through the support of strong diagnostics, and a multidisciplinary team that will include fellow ACAs, RVTs, CSRs, ER DVMs and Board-Certified Specialists including: Surgeons, Critical Care Specialists, Neurologists, Internists, Anesthesiologists, Ophthalmologists, Dermatologists, Cardiologists, Oncologists, and Rehabilitation Specialists.

Responsibilities include:

  • Assisting veterinarians, technicians, and other medical staff during examinations, treatments and possibly surgeries.
  • Assisting veterinarians, technicians and other staff with the restraining animals and administering medications.
  • You will need to lift up to 50 pounds and perform physical labour such as bending, stooping and standing for extended periods.
  • Interacting with animals in a safe and respectful manner.
  • Creating a warm, friendly, and welcoming environment with clients and pets.
  • Feeding, watering, exercising, bathing/basic grooming of animals in our care according to established protocols.
  • Recording observations in Vet Radar electronic treatment sheets.
  • Monitoring animal behaviour and health, reporting any concerns to veterinary staff.
  • General cleaning and disinfecting of your department (laundry, dishes, treatment rooms) in compliance with disinfection protocols.
  • Cleaning, sanitizing, and disinfecting animal cages, examination tables and rooms.
  • Walking dogs and providing exercise and enrichment.
  • Willingness to learn more regarding; pet nutrition, veterinary services, updated medical procedures, animal behaviour.
  • Other duties as required within the scope of your position.

Our Ideal Candidate:

The successful candidate will be an excellent team player, have a passion for animal care and, have the desire to work in a collaborative, multidisciplinary environment. Other requirements include:

  • Formal education and Certification as an Animal Care Attendant or equivalent experience required
  • Minimum one year of experience working in a veterinary clinic or animal care setting is required.
  • Previous experience working in a veterinary referral hospital is preferred
  • Knowledge of basic veterinary medical procedures and terminology.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and handle multiple tasks simultaneously.
  • Willingness to work flexible hours, including evenings, weekends and holidays.
  • Ability to lift up-to 50 pounds and stand for long periods-of-time.
