Overview

****We are looking for an experienced team of 2 who reside in the same home*************

The Respite Program is seeking a compassionate, experienced caregiver team to provide 2:1 support to an engaging 18-year-old young man with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) and severe cognitive impairment.

He is funny, gentle, shy, and non-verbal. He enjoys spending time outdoors on walks and bike rides, completing puzzles, watching animal shows, and participating in other calm, meaningful activities. We are looking for caregivers who are patient, dependable, and committed to building a trusting, long-term relationship with him.

This is a 2:1 support position and would be best suited for 2 individuals who live in the same home, with services beginning as hourly respite to establish a relationship, build rapport and become familiar with his routines and support needs. The long-term goal is to transition to providing overnight respite in the 2 caregiver's home approximately 1–2 nights per month, when appropriate.

This young man benefits from caregivers who understand positive behaviour support and can respond calmly, confidently, and respectfully when he experiences periods of dysregulation or presents with challenging behaviours.

Compensation

  • Hourly respite: $25.00 per hour, per caregiver
  • Overnight respite: Paid on a per diem basis

We Are Looking for Caregivers Who:

  • Have a minimum of three years' experience supporting children, youth, or adults with developmental disabilities.
  • Hold a post-secondary certificate or diploma in Human Services, Community Support, Education, Social Services, or a related field, or possess an equivalent combination of education, training, and relevant experience.
  • Have at least one year of experience supporting individuals with complex behaviours or implementing positive behaviour support strategies.
  • Live in or near the South Surrey / White Rock area.
  • Are passionate about supporting youth and young adults with developmental disabilities to participate in meaningful community and recreational activities.
  • Can work independently while following individualized care plans, behaviour support plans, and safety plans.
  • Demonstrate patience, flexibility, excellent communication, and sound judgment in a variety of situations.
  • Are willing to participate in a caregiver screening process, including reference and criminal record checks.
  • Have current Trauma-Informed Behaviour Management training (or equivalent), or are willing to complete Reach's free caregiver training.

This Opportunity May Be a Great Fit If You:

  • Enjoy building meaningful, long-term relationships.
  • Believe in person-centred, strengths-based support.
  • Stay calm under pressure and use proactive, respectful approaches to behaviour support.
  • Are looking for rewarding work that makes a lasting difference in the life of a young person and their family.
  • Live with another individual who also fits the job criteria and are looking for a rewarding way to earn extra income

If you are 2 experienced caregivers who are committed to providing safe, compassionate, and reliable respite care, we would love to hear from you.

Single applicants who do not indicate that they have a second person to share in care will not be contacted.
