Operator Assistant / Swamper

H2Oil Energy Inc. is hiring Operator Assistants/Swampers, to support our Combo-Vac and Hydro-Vac crews in Grande Prairie.

This is a hands-on field position suited to someone who works safely, takes direction well and wants to build experience in industrial vacuum services. Most work is currently local to the Peace Region, allowing crews to be home most nights. You will work alongside experienced operators and help complete jobs safely and efficiently.

Schedule and work area

Most of our work is currently local to the Peace Region, and crews are home most nights. Occasional longer-distance or over-night projects do arise.

Shifts generally average 10 to 12 hours, and night shifts may be required as needed.

What you’ll do

• Assist Combo Vac and Hydrovac Operators work safely
• Handle, connect, disconnect and clean hoses, tools and related equipment
• Support vac work, fluid recovery, daylighting and non-destructive excavation under the operator’s direction
• Act as a spotter while equipment is backing, positioning or working around jobsite hazards
• Help maintain a safe and organized work area
• Support routine equipment checks and report hazards, damage or maintenance concerns
• Communicate effectively with operators, customers, supervisors and coworkers
• Follow company, customer and regulatory safety requirements
• Perform sometimes demanding outdoor work in changing weather and ground conditions
• Remain flexible as workloads and customer requirements change

Required qualifications

• Valid Class 5 driver’s licence
• Five-year driver’s abstract
• Strong commitment to safe work practices
• Ability to perform field work throughout a 10 to 12-hour day
• Ability to work the scheduled rotation, including night shifts when required
• Ability to work effectively as part of a crew and follow the operator’s direction
• Comfort using mobile applications for time reporting, required documentation and accessing pay information
• Ability to satisfy H2Oil’s pre-employment screening requirements

Preferred qualifications

• Previous oilfield, construction or industrial labour experience is an asset
• Current H2S Alive and Standard First Aid certificates are an asset
• Strong work ethic, positive attitude and dependable attendance
• Organized, clean and efficient approach to equipment and field work
• Interest in progressing toward a Class 3 or Class 1 licence
