Lakehead University invites applications for an Anatomy Laboratory Technician to support the delivery of the anatomy and pathology curriculum within the Collaborative Doctor of Veterinary Medicine Program (CDVMP). This position plays a critical role in laboratory-based teaching, specimen preparation, and the safe, compliant operation of anatomy and pathology teaching facilities.
This position will contribute to the delivery of the accredited veterinary curriculum within the CDVMP at Lakehead University’s Thunder Bay campus, working collaboratively within a team-taught curriculum delivery model alongside OVC faculty colleagues. Reporting to the Chair of the Department of Veterinary Science, the Anatomy Laboratory Technician supports student-centered, experiential learning through laboratory demonstration, preparation, and technical expertise. The role also contributes to the development and maintenance of anatomy and pathology reference collections and supports future veterinary-related academic programs at Lakehead University.
Responsibilities
- Demonstrate and support laboratory instruction in veterinary anatomy, physiology, histology, pathology, and health management courses delivered through the CDVMP
- Prepare, set up, and take down anatomy and pathology laboratory sessions
- Manage the receipt, storage, handling, and disposal of cadavers and biological specimens
- Maintain anatomy and pathology reference collections in collaboration with faculty colleagues at Lakehead University and the University of Guelph
- Ensure compliance with biosafety, biosecurity, and laboratory safety protocols
- Support Bellringer exams, OSCEs, outreach activities, recruitment events, and departmental teaching activities
- Assist with training and orientation of part-time demonstrators and laboratory users
Qualifications
Required Qualifications:
- Master’s degree in in Comparative Animal Anatomy, Pathology, or a related field, with demonstrated expertise in anatomy or pathology
- Minimum two years of relevant professional experience
- Demonstrated ability to support laboratory-based teaching
- Strong organizational, interpersonal, and communication skills
- Ability to work safely with biological and chemical hazards
- Valid Ontario driver’s licence and adequate rabies titre
- Completion of required safety training upon hire
Desirable Qualifications:
- PhD or equivalent preferred
