  • Sand, grind, and clean steel surfaces to meet the preparation requirements of the specified coating system.
  • Mask and protect areas that must remain free of paint, including threads, hardware, and mating surfaces.
  • Mix primers, paints, and industrial coatings according to manufacturer instructions, including mixing ratios, thinning requirements, and pot life.
  • Set up and operate spray-painting equipment, adjusting settings to suit the coating and workpiece.
  • Apply primers and finish coats to steel surfaces, ensuring consistent coverage and a high-quality finish.
  • Ensure proper coating coverage on edges, corners, welds, and difficult-to-reach areas.
  • Follow specified coating thickness, drying times, curing requirements, and recoating intervals.
  • Check wet-film thickness and complete other coating-quality checks as required.
  • Inspect painted steel for missed areas, runs, overspray, uneven coverage, and other finish defects.
  • Complete touch-ups, repairs, and repainting as needed.
  • Handle and stage painted components carefully to prevent damage during drying and curing.
  • Clean and maintain spray guns, hoses, pumps, and related equipment.
  • Monitor paint, primer, thinner, and consumable inventory and communicate supply requirements.
  • Maintain a clean, organized painting area and complete job-related records as required.

Fabrication & Shop Support

Safety & Quality

  • Follow safe work procedures for spray painting, surface preparation, chemical handling, and equipment operation.
  • Use required PPE and respiratory protection.
  • Follow product safety information and established procedures for ventilation, storage, spill response, and disposal.
  • Report coating defects, equipment concerns, and unsafe conditions promptly.
  • Coordinate with the production team to meet painting requirements and production deadlines.

Qualifications & Skills

  • Comfortable using common hand and power tools.
  • Willingness to assist with basic fabrication and general shop work when needed.
  • Reliable attendance and a strong commitment to safety.
