Job Summary
We are seeking highly experienced Journeyman Electricians, Power System Electricians, and Substation Technicians from Canada to support high-voltage construction projects throughout the United States.

We are specifically looking for personnel with a strong background in high-voltage substation construction and Gas Insulated Switchgear (GIS/GIB) installation. Candidates with hands-on experience assembling, installing, aligning, inspecting, and supporting the commissioning of GIS equipment are strongly preferred.

Selected personnel will support major greenfield and brownfield high-voltage projects throughout the U.S. and must be willing to travel or relocate based on project requirements.

Qualified candidates may be eligible to work in the United States under an applicable employer-sponsored (E-2) work authorization program, subject to individual eligibility and approval.

Candidates with significant Gas Insulated Switchgear experience will receive priority consideration.

U.S. Work Authorization

RokPower is recruiting qualified Canadian electrical professionals for project assignments in the United States.

Candidates must be able to satisfy all applicable U.S. immigration and work-authorization requirements. Eligibility will be reviewed individually, and employment is contingent upon obtaining and maintaining the required authorization to work in the United States.

Primary Responsibilities

Depending on project requirements, responsibilities may include:

• Reading and interpreting electrical drawings, one-lines, schematics, wiring diagrams, equipment drawings, and construction documents
• Installation, assembly, upgrades, and maintenance of high-voltage substation equipment in both greenfield and brownfield environments
• Gas Insulated Switchgear (GIS) and Gas Insulated Bus (GIB) installation
• Installation of circuit breakers, disconnect switches, instrument transformers, surge arresters, and associated high-voltage equipment
• Installation and connection of primary bus and conductor systems
• Installation of secondary components such as Local Control Cabinets (LCCs), control panels, disconnects, and junction boxes
• Control cable installation, termination, wiring, and verification
• Installation of below grade components such as ground grids, conduits, and cable systems
• Supporting equipment testing, functional verification, commissioning, and OEM activities
• Maintaining strict housekeeping, cleanliness, quality, and foreign-material-control requirements associated with GIS installation
• Working closely with field supervision, OEM representatives, engineers, quality personnel, and project management
• Performing all work in accordance with project safety requirements, quality standards, manufacturer requirements, and approved construction procedures

Experience and qualifications:

• Previous experience working on HV GIS projects
• GIS assembly, installation, inspection, and commissioning experience (DLRO, IR Megger)
• Ability to interpret electrical drawings, schematics, OEM manuals, and installation procedures
• Experience with GIS bus sections, circuit breakers, disconnectors, grounding switches, CTs, PTs, secondary cable terminations, and associated control equipment
• Understanding of gas-handling procedures, leak testing, vacuuming, filling, and gas-quality testing
• Experience completing mechanical checks, torque verification, alignment checks, and installation documentation
• Strong understanding of substation safety requirements, LOTO, temporary protective grounding, and energized-work controls
• Ability to complete QA/QC documentation, inspection and test plans, check sheets, and punch-list closeout

Safety training and qualifications:

• Aerial Lift/Mobile Elevating Work Platform (MEWP/EWP) operator training and authorization
• Fall Protection and Personal Fall Arrest System training
• Qualified Rigger and Signal Person training
• Permit-Required Confined Space Entry training
• Overhead Bridge and Gantry Crane operator training and authorization
• Lockout/Tagout (LOTO) training
• OSHA 10 or OSHA
• NFPA 70E Electrical Safety training
• First Aid/CPR certification

Highly regarded:

• OEM-specific GIS training or certifications
• Experience with Siemens, Hitachi Energy, GE Vernova, Mitsubishi Electric, or comparable GIS equipment
• Experience on 115 kV, 138 kV, 145 kV, 230 kV, or higher-voltage systems
• Previous substation construction and commissioning experience
• Experience supervising GIS installation crews or coordinating directly with OEM representatives (GF Role)
