Head Chef - School Cafeteria

Full-Time Position

Location: Kuper Academy

Position Start Date: Immediately

Kuper Academy is seeking an experienced and passionate Head Chef to lead the daily operations of our high school cafeteria. The successful candidate will be responsible for creating nutritious, appealing, and well-balanced meals while providing a positive dining experience for our students and staff.

The Head Chef will oversee menu planning, ordering food, food preparation, kitchen operations, and staff coordination while maintaining the highest standards of food quality, safety, and cleanliness.

Key Responsibilities

  • Plan and prepare daily menus that are nutritious, appealing, and appropriate for elementary and high school students
  • Lead and supervise cafeteria staff, ensuring efficient daily operations
  • Prepare a variety of meals, including hot lunches, snacks, and special event catering
  • Manage food inventory, ordering, and cost control
  • Ensure compliance with food safety, sanitation, and health regulations
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe kitchen environment
  • Adapt menus to accommodate dietary restrictions and student needs
  • Collaborate with school administration on cafeteria services and special events
  • Provide excellent customer service and create a welcoming cafeteria atmosphere
  • Train and support kitchen staff in proper food preparation and safety procedures

Qualifications

  • Previous experience as a Head Chef, Sous Chef, or Kitchen Manager (school cafeteria experience is an asset)
  • Strong knowledge of food preparation, nutrition, and kitchen management
  • Excellent organizational and leadership skills
  • Ability to manage a fast-paced environment while maintaining attention to detail
  • Knowledge of food safety standards and certification (required)
  • Strong communication and teamwork skills
  • Passion for preparing quality meals for young people

Inventory Control & Kitchen Management Responsibilities

  • Maintain accurate inventory records for all food, beverages, and kitchen supplies
  • Monitor stock levels and ensure timely ordering of ingredients and supplies
  • Track food usage, minimize waste, and implement cost-control measures
  • Receive and inspect deliveries to ensure quality, accuracy, and proper storage
  • Organize and rotate inventory using proper FIFO (First In, First Out) procedures
  • Monitor food costs and assist with budget management
  • Ensure proper labelling, dating, and storage of all products according to food safety standards
  • Police check is mandatory
