Full job description

The Distillery Restaurants Corp., creators of Cluny Bistro, El Catrin, Pure Spirits Oyster House & Grill, Madrina Bar y Tapas and Distillery Events are seeking talented and motivated Junior Sous Chef with a passion for learning and career growth. The ideal candidate not only understands that exceptional food is at the heart of hospitality but that they are an ambassador to Toronto's unique food and beverage culture.

What you’ll be doing:

  • Supervise the Kitchen team and ensure that all standards are being met.
  • Coach and mentor the team in best practices.
  • Support the team during service to ensure a seamless operation and amazing dining experience for our guests.
  • Communicate the restaurant's vision to all team members and lead by example. Reinforce the DRC’s Mission & Priorities daily.
  • Consistently monitor kitchen operations and cleanliness.
  • Build and maintain relationships with team members and Front Of House management alike.
  • Support ordering and receiving, ensuring proper product levels, rotation and storage.
  • Lead and support a culture that revolves around the experience and enjoyment of food and cooking.
  • Demonstrate high personal integrity and business ethics that align with the DRC’s Mission & Priorities.
  • Give suggestions to Sous Chefs, the Chef de Cuisine and the Executive Chef on how to improve kitchen area, process/procedures, etc.
  • Support training and development initiatives as well as performance management and employee coaching.
  • Lead team by example to exhibit, encourage and motivate DRC’s Values & Beliefs.

What you’ll bring to the kitchen:

  • EXPERIENCE. Ideally, you have five (5) years’ experience cooking in a fast-paced restaurant environment with progressive growth into leadership roles. Your current role should be CDP or Junior Sous Chef.
  • EDUCATION/TRAINING. You’ve graduated with a culinary degree/diploma or it’s in process. It’s possible that school wasn’t your thing, but you’ve got a combination of training and experience.
  • COMMUNICATION SKILLS. You demonstrate exceptional relationship-building and communications skills among your team members at the restaurant.
  • DRIVE. You have the drive to push through service, love to learn and want to have FUN!
