OVERVIEW

The Production Manager in a beverage manufacturing company is responsible for overseeing all aspects of the production process to ensure the efficient, cost-effective, and safe manufacturing of high-quality beverages. This includes managing production teams, ensuring adherence to safety and quality standards, optimizing production workflows, and driving continuous improvements to meet customer demands and business objectives.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Production Planning and Scheduling

  • Develop and implement daily, weekly, and monthly production schedules based on demand forecasts and customer orders.
  • Coordinate with sales, inventory, and procurement departments to ensure materials and resources are available for production.
  • Monitor production rates, labour utilization, and material flow to ensure production targets are met.

Team Leadership and Development

  • Lead, train, and supervise the production team to ensure high performance, productivity, and safety.
  • Foster a positive and collaborative work environment, ensuring clear communication between shifts and departments.
  • Identify skill gaps and coordinate training programs to improve workforce competencies.

Quality Control and Assurance

  • Ensure production processes meet quality standards, including beverage formulation, taste, appearance, and packaging.
  • Work closely with the Quality Assurance team to conduct routine inspections and audits of the production process.
  • Address any quality issues or non-conformities, initiating corrective actions when necessary.

Health, Safety, and Compliance

  • Maintain a safe and compliant working environment by ensuring adherence to workplace safety regulations, food safety standards (e.g., HACCP, GMP), and environmental policies.
  • Conduct regular safety training sessions, risk assessments, and safety audits.
  • Monitor the proper handling and disposal of hazardous materials, waste, and chemicals used in the production process.

Process Optimization and Efficiency

  • Analyze production data and performance metrics to identify bottlenecks and inefficiencies in the production line.
  • Implement continuous improvement initiatives, such as lean manufacturing, to reduce waste, increase throughput, and optimize resource utilization.
  • Work with maintenance and engineering teams to minimize downtime through effective equipment management and preventive maintenance.

Inventory and Cost Management

  • Oversee raw material and packaging inventory management, ensuring that production does not face shortages or overstocking.
  • Collaborate with the procurement team to ensure timely ordering and delivery of materials.
  • Monitor production costs and implement cost-saving initiatives while maintaining product quality.

Reporting and Documentation

  • Prepare and present regular production reports, highlighting key performance indicators (KPIs), production outcomes, and any issues encountered.
  • Maintain accurate records of production data, safety logs, maintenance schedules, and quality assurance reports.

New Product Development Support

  • Collaborate with R&D and product development teams during the launch of new beverage products to ensure a smooth transition from prototype to large-scale production.
  • Provide input on production feasibility, capacity planning, and required modifications to equipment or processes.

Customer Focus and Delivery

  • Ensure products are manufactured in compliance with customer specifications, including packaging, labelling, and quality requirements.
  • Work closely with logistics and warehouse teams to ensure timely delivery of finished goods to customers.

Team Collaboration and Cross-Functional Support

  • Coordinate with other departments, including supply chain, logistics, maintenance, and HR, to support overall business goals.
  • Act as a liaison between the production team and senior management, communicating operational challenges, successes, and opportunities for improvement.

SKILLS & QUALIFICATIONS

  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Food Science, Manufacturing, or related field (or equivalent experience).
  • Experience: Minimum of 5 years in a production management role within the food or beverage industry, with experience in high-volume manufacturing environments.
  • Technical Skills: Strong understanding of beverage manufacturing processes, quality control systems, and production machinery.
  • Leadership Skills: Proven ability to manage and motivate cross-functional teams, with a focus on safety, quality, and performance.
  • Problem-Solving: Excellent analytical skills, with the ability to troubleshoot production issues and implement corrective actions.
  • Communication Skills: Strong verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to present information clearly and interact with both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
  • Certifications (preferred): Lean Six Sigma, HACCP, or other relevant certifications in food safety and quality management.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

  • This position typically requires a combination of office-based and on-the-floor responsibilities.
  • The Production Manager will be required to work in a fast-paced, dynamic environment, often under tight deadlines.
  • May involve shifts or weekend work depending on production schedules.
