The Program
At Taproot Community Support Services, we’re a 100 percent employee-owned organization through an Employee Ownership Trust (EOT). Every employee is an owner from their first day, with a voice in shaping Taproot’s future and the opportunity to share in employee ownership dividends.
As a Certified B Corporation, we harness business for good. Since 1983 we’ve grown steadily, now delivering support across Alberta, British Columbia, and Ontario through more than 90 contracts.
Our 800-plus employee-owners live by five shared values: we are stronger together, we lead with optimism, we embrace challenges, we respect every voice, and we go above and beyond. Guided by these principles, we deliver more than 125 community-based services each year. We walk alongside about 1,600 children, youth, families, and people with diverse abilities, with revenues exceeding $70 million.
In Your Role You Will
- Conduct Functional Behaviour Assessments, observations, and ongoing data analysis to identify barriers to participation and regulation and inform evidence-based interventions.
- Develop, implement, and monitor individualized Positive Behaviour Support (PBS) and Safety Plans in collaboration with multidisciplinary partners, including schools, psychiatrists, MCFD/Usma, and CYMH.
- Prioritize proactive, skill-building, and environmentally supportive strategies that reduce reliance on reactive interventions.
- Serve as a lead educator and coach for caregivers, fostering understanding of neurodiversity (e.g., Autism, ADHD, FASD) and building practical skills to support each child or youth’s strengths and needs within everyday routines.
- Provide clinical leadership within wraparound teams through collaborative facilitation, professional insight, and coordinated, family-centred care. Develop psychologically safe, collaborative problem-solving across service systems.
- Advocate for children, youth, and families by navigating complex service systems, reducing barriers to access, and supporting caregivers to have an informed voice in planning and decision-making.
- Provide clinical supervision to RBTWs, including competency-based oversight, ongoing training, “modelling reflective, ethical, and relationship-centred practice.
- Oversee behavioural measurement, data collection, and graphing to evaluate effectiveness of interventions and guide clinical decision-making.
- Model professional, ethical, and trauma-informed care in all interactions with youth, caregivers, and team members.
- Evaluate, model, and coach caregivers and staff during direct service delivery, supporting implementation of Behaviour Support Plans across a variety of settings and programming activities.
The Position
This role ensures alignment with funder mandates and organizational policies and supports the implementation of evidence based practices grounded in Positive Behaviour Support (PBS) and our CARE Model with an emphasis on relationship-based, neuroaffirming, and trauma-informed practice. This can strengthen identity and alignment. The Behaviour Analyst will play a key role in maintaining clinical quality, ethical practice, and consistency across programs.
This role emphasizes collaborative consultation, caregiver capacity-building, and sustainable implementation of supports across home, school, and community environments
Subject to funding, this position has the potential to expand to include clinical supervision of BCaBA and RBT roles.
Scheduling
One (1) permanent, full-time position that will work 40 hours per week:
- Monday through Friday, 0830-1630
- Requires flexibility, which may include weekends, statutory holidays and evenings.
- This is a hybrid role, involving a combination of working from home and travel to Port Alberni for site visits and observations.
Travel Requirements
- This position requires frequent travel across Vancouver Island, with a primary focus on Port Alberni, using a personal vehicle.
- Travel to remote communities may be required, including driving on gravel roads and utilizing alternative transportation methods such as helicopter, float plane, or boat
- A valid driver’s license and access to a reliable personal vehicle are essential
- Approximately 50% of the incumbent’s scheduled time will involve travel
The Behaviour Analyst will primarily support programs funded by MCFD and Usma in Port Alberni, with potential opportunities for service expansion across Vancouver Island and the Lower Mainland.
