Full job description

At CAAT, we’re passionate about what we do. And it shows!

Here, you’ll find a cultural spark in everything we do – from the way we partner with members and employers, to the way we work, collaborate, and grow. It doesn’t just feel different at CAAT. It is different. We’re one of the fastest-growing pensions in the country for a reason. We challenge the status quo, making a real impact on the hundreds of employers we serve – from education institutions to major corporations and household brands. And we’re just getting started. Driven by core values and a shared purpose, we’re fierce champions for better retirement security, known for our can-do culture where everyone plays a role in bringing our vision to life. If this sounds like a fit, we’d love you to be a part of it.

About the Role:

We are seeking a Manager, Investment Operations (Public Markets) for our Finance team. Reporting to the Senior Manager, the successful incumbent will be responsible for the day-to-day oversight of all investment transactions, accounting and monitoring of CAAT’s public markets portfolio – including equities, fixed income, hedge funds, commodities and hedging and rebalancing strategies. Help lead the governance and operational control framework supporting CAAT’s public markets portfolio, with a focus on operational efficiency, data integrity, and effective risk management across the function.

As the Newest Member of our Team, You’ll:

  • Oversee the day-to-day operational activities of the public markets portfolio including transaction settlements, cash management, operational oversight and end-to-end onboarding of new investments, accounts, and structures.
  • Oversee the monthly and quarterly reconciliation between custodian records and internal books for all public market investments; investigate, escalate, and resolve breaks within established timelines.
  • Lead liquidity forecasting and cash management oversight activities, ensuring a clear understanding of funding requirements and collaborating closely with the public markets team and external managers as liquidity needs arise.
  • Oversee quarter-end reporting for the Board and senior management, including cost reporting and key financial highlights.
  • Support the preparation and review of the investment sections of the annual financial statements, audit support schedules, and related disclosures.
  • Partner with the Investment Risk and Performance teams to ensure data integrity and consistency across investment systems and reporting.
  • Work closely with the public markets investments team, the custodian (CIBC Mellon), external managers, and auditors to maintain a strong and effective control environment for CAAT’s public markets operations.
  • Oversee CAAT’s global documentation process to ensure access to foreign capital markets.
  • Develop, document, and maintain policies, procedures, controls and governance documentation for the public markets operations function.
  • Identify and lead process improvement and automation initiatives to enhance scalability, data integrity, and control effectiveness.
  • Coach, mentor, and develop junior team members, supporting the broader team culture.

To Succeed, You Bring:

  • A minimum of six (6) to eight (8) years of progressive experience in investment accounting, investment operations, or middle/back-office functions supporting public markets portfolios at a pension plan, institutional asset manager, custodian, or professional services firm.
  • A university degree in accounting, finance, or business administration, with a professional designation (CPA, CFA, or CAIA) strongly preferred.
  • Proven leader with direct people-management experience, skilled in coaching and mentoring junior staff, developing talent, and motivating teams to drive high-performance results.
  • Hands-on experience supporting transaction operations for an investment portfolio
  • Deep understanding of public markets instruments (equities, fixed income, and derivatives) and their accounting and valuation practices, coupled with working knowledge of fund waterfalls, performance fees, and management fee calculations
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to deliver under multiple competing priorities, combined with exceptional problem-solving and sound decision-making practices.
  • Strong operational risk awareness with the ability to identify issues, recommend solutions, and strengthen internal controls and processes.
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills with the proven ability to build and foster relationships with key stakeholders.

The target hiring salary for this position is $125,800 – 157,200. Placement within our salary range will be based on factors such as internal equity, market conditions, and the candidate’s experience, skills, and qualifications relevant to the role.
