Truck Driver / Equipment Operator (Roll-Off , Lugger & Front-End)

Full-Time | Competitive Pay | Overtime Available

Our growing waste management company is looking for a motivated, safety-focused Truck Driver / Equipment Operator to join our team. We pride ourselves on providing reliable waste collection and transportation services while maintaining the highest standards of safety, customer service, and professionalism.

What You'll Do

As a Truck Driver / Equipment Operator, you will safely and efficiently operate one or more of the following:

  • Roll-Off Trucks
  • Lugger (Hook-Lift) Trucks
  • Front-End Loaders
  • Other commercial waste collection equipment as required

You will be responsible for collecting, transporting, and delivering waste containers throughout Southern Ontario while ensuring all work is completed safely, efficiently, and professionally.

Key Responsibilities

  • Operate commercial Roll-Off, Lugger, Front-End and other waste collection vehicles safely and efficiently.
  • Transport open-top bins, compactors, construction bins, recycling containers, and specialty waste containers.
  • Load, unload, exchange and position bins at customer sites using hydraulic hoists, cable systems or hook-lift systems.
  • Secure containers using tarping systems and ensure all loads comply with Ministry of Transportation regulations.
  • Inspect containers before loading to ensure they are structurally safe and suitable for transport.
  • Verify that loads are evenly distributed and properly secured before travelling.
  • Perform container exchanges in confined industrial, commercial and residential locations while maintaining safe clearances from buildings, overhead utilities, parked vehicles and pedestrians.
  • Back trucks safely into loading areas using mirrors, cameras and spotters when required.
  • Perform daily routes while maintaining productivity and customer satisfaction.
  • Navigate city streets, industrial facilities, transfer stations, landfills and construction sites.
  • Deliver waste, recyclables or construction debris to designated disposal or recycling facilities.
  • Complete scale tickets and maintain accurate records of materials hauled.
  • Assist customers with proper container placement when required.
  • Tarp and un-tarp containers before transport.
  • Open and close container doors safely.
  • Sweep or clean any debris resulting from loading or unloading operations.
  • Report contaminated loads, overloaded containers or unsafe customer sites to management.
  • Complete all required paperwork including:
  • Driver logbooks (where applicable)
  • Daily route sheets
  • Scale tickets
  • Vehicle inspection reports
  • Defect reports
  • Time sheets

Vehicle Responsibilities

Drivers are expected to treat their assigned truck as their own by performing routine inspections and reporting concerns immediately.

Responsibilities include:

  • Daily pre-trip and post-trip inspections
  • Checking fluid levels
  • Monitoring tire condition and inflation
  • Inspecting hydraulic systems
  • Checking winches, cables, chains, hooks and lifting equipment
  • Ensuring lights, brakes, cameras and warning systems function properly
  • Keeping the truck clean inside and out
  • Reporting maintenance issues promptly to minimize downtime

Safety Responsibilities

Safety is our highest priority.

Drivers must:

  • Follow all Ministry of Transportation regulations
  • Comply with CVOR requirements
  • Follow Occupational Health & Safety legislation
  • Wear required PPE at all times
  • Maintain awareness of overhead hazards including hydro lines and tree branches
  • Perform hazard assessments before servicing containers
  • Never operate unsafe equipment
  • Report incidents, near misses and unsafe conditions immediately
  • Operate hydraulics only when the area is clear of people and obstructions

Qualifications

Required:

  • Valid Ontario AZ or DZ Licence
  • Clean driver's abstract
  • Ability to safely operate heavy commercial vehicles
  • Strong understanding of safe driving practices
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision
  • Good communication and organizational skills
  • Ability to perform physically demanding work
  • Reliable transportation to and from work

Preferred:

  • 3+ years operating Roll-Off, Lugger or Front-End trucks
  • Experience servicing industrial, commercial and construction customers
  • Experience working around heavy equipment and active construction sites
  • Experience hauling waste, scrap metal, aggregates or recycling
  • Knowledge of Southern Ontario roads and municipalities
  • Mechanical aptitude is considered an asset

Physical Requirements

Applicants must be able to:

  • Climb in and out of truck cabs frequently
  • Lift up to 50 lbs
  • Pull tarps over containers
  • Open heavy container doors
  • Walk on uneven ground
  • Work outdoors in all weather conditions
  • Bend, kneel, climb and perform repetitive physical tasks
