About BHP
At BHP, we believe our purpose goes beyond mining: we work to improve lives and create a more sustainable future. We are a global resources company with operations in more than 90 locations worldwide.
In Canada, our presence is growing with the development of one of the most significant potash projects in the world — Jansen. This project reflects our long‑term commitment to sustainability, community engagement, and economic growth.
About BHP - Jansen
Imagine being part of something truly world‑class — something shaping the future of sustainable agriculture and responsible resource development. That’s what the Jansen Potash Project offers.
Located about 140 kilometres east of Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, Jansen is set to become one of the largest and most sustainable potash mines on the planet. With a CAD$14 billion (US$10.5 billion) investment, it represents the largest private investment in Saskatchewan’s history, and a bold step forward for BHP in Canada.
But Jansen is more than a mine; it’s a long‑term opportunity to build something meaningful. During construction, it will create ~5,500 jobs, and once operating, ~900 permanent roles. Whether you're looking to grow your career, contribute to a sustainable future, or be part of a legacy project, Jansen could be the place where it all begins.
Why BHP?
At BHP, we are transforming the way mining is done. We embrace innovation, sustainability, and inclusion to build a smarter, safer, and more human future.
We are proud to be recognized as one of Canada’s Top 100 Employers for 2025, a testament to our dedication to fostering a positive, diverse, and rewarding work environment. Here, you’ll be part of a team that values safety, integrity, performance, and collaboration.
Work Location
This role will be based at the Jansen Mine Site located in Leroy, SK. The work schedule for this role is 8/80.
For those not living locally, BHP provides relocation assistance to the local Jansen area. Alternatively, you can enjoy the convenience and comfort of our onsite camp accommodation at Discovery Lodge during your shifts.
BHP offers domestic relocation assistance to support the successful incumbent in transitioning, if required. Benefits offered as part of the relocation program include (but are not limited to) new home purchase assistance, temporary accommodations, home finding trip and a resettlement allowance.
The Challenge Ahead
Reporting to the Maintenance Manager, the Superintendent Maintenance (underground) will effectively help support the assembly and ongoing routine maintenance of continuous boring machines, extensible belts and auxiliary systems related to production mining. Ownership of additional assets will grow as the mine expands.
In this role, you will:
- Oversee assembly and overall mechanical maintenance of all underground assets including continuous mining machines, mobile equipment, conveyor belts and structural assets such as bins and feeders.
- Ensure direct reports have the necessary tools, training and skillsets required to perform work safely.
- Utilize the enterprise Maintenance system (SAP) to execute proper preventative maintenance plans and ensure key performance indicators related to in-field execution.
- Manage department spending and drive future facing projects related to the department.
- Be able to learn and adhere to applicable BHP company policies and procedures.
- Engage in field safety activities (FLEX), risk assessments and toolbox meetings.
- Support/maintain BHP Operating System practices which drive continuous improvement.
What You’ll Bring to the Role
- Self-motivated with an aptitude for learning and understanding equipment operation and maintenance.
- Holds certification as a mechanical engineer, mechanical technologist, project manager or a journeyperson in a suitable trade.
- Applicable experience in underground mining, preferably potash and able to obtain/retain a Saskatchewan underground Supervisor ticket. (Minimum 3 Years)
- Experience using an asset management system such as SAP
- A strong safety conscious mindset.
- Strong communication skills
- An individual looking to be part of a positive team environment.
Why You’ll Love Working Here
At BHP, we understand that to bring your best, you need to feel your best. That’s why our benefits are designed to support your health, your growth, and your personal balance.
- Professional Development: Continuous learning and meaningful growth opportunities.
- Compensation: Fair, competitive, and aligned with your skills and contributions.
- Inclusive Culture: A workplace where everyone is valued, respected, and empowered to bring their whole self to work.
About Our Process
At BHP, we are committed to employing individuals who align with the BHP Charter Values and meet the requirements of the role. As part of the recruitment process, there are several checks which may be conducted to demonstrate applicants' suitability for a role including police / criminal background checks, medical, drug and alcohol testing, due diligence checks, right to work checks, and/or reference checks. Based on existing demographics in our Potash project preference in hiring will be given to qualified women and Indigenous peoples who self-identify as such in the application process. This reasonable and justifiable measure has been implemented pursuant to section 56 of The Saskatchewan Human Rights Code, 2018.
