Job Description

Tl’azt’en Nation is seeking an experienced, compassionate, and community focused Health Manager to lead and support the delivery of health and wellness programs for Tl’azt’en Nation members and families.

The Health Manager is responsible for overseeing health programs, staff, budgets, reporting, service coordination, partnerships, and community based wellness initiatives. This role requires strong leadership, confidentiality, cultural awareness, program management experience, and the ability to work respectfully with staff, community members, leadership, Elders, Knowledge Keepers, and external health partners.

About the Role

The Health Manager provides day to day leadership for the Health and Wellness Department and ensures programs are delivered in a coordinated, culturally safe, and community centred manner. This includes supporting mental health, addictions, nursing, prenatal, child and youth wellness, home support, prevention, and related health services.

The successful candidate will be organized, accountable, experienced in health program administration, and committed to improving wellness outcomes for the community.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Provide leadership, supervision, and support to Health and Wellness staff.
  • Oversee the planning, coordination, delivery, and evaluation of health programs and services.
  • Support mental health, addictions, prenatal, child and youth, home support, wellness, prevention, and community health programming.
  • Develop and maintain department workplans, schedules, service plans, and program priorities.
  • Monitor budgets, funding agreements, reporting requirements, and program deliverables.
  • Prepare reports, briefing notes, funding updates, and program summaries for leadership, Chief and Council, and funding partners.
  • Ensure health programs are delivered in a culturally safe, trauma informed, confidential, and client centred manner.
  • Support staff with case coordination, referrals, program planning, and service delivery issues.
  • Build and maintain relationships with health authorities, funders, service providers, community agencies, and partner organizations.
  • Identify gaps in services and recommend improvements to strengthen community health and wellness supports.
  • Support recruitment, onboarding, training, performance management, and staff development within the department.
  • Ensure client records, program files, and department documentation are accurate, secure, and confidential.
  • Support community health events, workshops, wellness activities, and prevention initiatives.
  • Work with Elders, Knowledge Keepers, and cultural supports where appropriate to strengthen culturally grounded care.
  • Ensure department policies, procedures, and practices align with applicable legislation, funding requirements, and Tl’azt’en Nation priorities.
  • Respond to urgent department needs and support appropriate referrals to emergency or crisis services when required.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Post secondary education in health administration, nursing, social work, public health, mental health, human services, Indigenous health, or a related field.
  • Minimum three to five years of experience in health, wellness, social services, or community program management.
  • Supervisory or management experience is strongly preferred.
  • Experience working with First Nations communities is strongly preferred.
  • Knowledge of community health programming, mental health, addictions, prevention, family wellness, and culturally safe service delivery.
  • Strong leadership, communication, planning, and problem solving skills.
  • Experience managing budgets, funding reports, program deliverables, and staff schedules.
  • Ability to handle confidential and sensitive information with professionalism and discretion.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a leadership team.
  • Strong computer skills, including Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, reporting tools, and file management systems.
  • Knowledge of Tl’azt’en Nation culture and community, or willingness to learn.
  • Valid BC Class 5 Driver’s Licence is preferred.
  • Satisfactory Criminal Record Check and Vulnerable Sector Check required.
