Full job description
ASI is an underwater services company specializing in the inspection, maintenance, and rehabilitation of submerged assets and environments. Operating globally, we provide power generation operators, governments, and industrial clients with a structured approach to submerged asset management — integrating underwater inspection, maintenance, and rehabilitation into cohesive, facility-specific programs. From our head office in Stoney Creek, Ontario, and locations across Canada, the United States, and Latin America, our specialists are united by a culture of safety, quality and a service-first mindset.
Reporting to the VP, Corporate Planning and Quality Systems, the QHSE Manager leads and continually improves ASI’s Quality, Health, Safety, and Environmental management systems. This is an individual contributor role: the QHSE Manager owns ASI's QHSE function directly rather than leading a team. It's well-suited to someone who takes ownership of safety culture, thrives on continuous improvement, and wants to make a measurable impact across a growing, globally active organization. You partner with business unit leaders to keep ASI compliant, audit-ready, and safe, ensuring our people and operations meet the highest standards on every project we take on. At the same time, you will champion a proactive, company-wide approach to quality, health, safety, and the environment.
The QHSE Manager at ASI:
- Leads ASI’s Quality, Health, Safety, and Environmental management systems and drives continuous improvement.
- Maintains compliance and audit-readiness across ISO 9001, ISO 45001, and COR standards.
- Champions a proactive, company-wide safety culture.
- Partners with senior leaders to set and achieve QHSE objectives.
- Serves as ASI’s subject-matter expert on quality, health, safety, and environmental matters.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead the implementation, maintenance, and continual improvement of QHSE management systems aligned with ISO 9001, ISO 45001, and Certificate of Recognition (COR) standards.
- Monitor regulatory and industry developments, keep company policies compliant and current, and guide the organization through internal/external audits and regulatory inspections.
- Develop and drive company-wide QHSE objectives and continuous-improvement initiatives in partnership with senior management.
- Champion a proactive safety culture through employee engagement, training, and clear communication of expectations.
- Lead incident, accident, and non-conformance investigations, including root cause analysis and corrective and preventive actions.
- Serve as management representative on the Joint Health and Safety Committee (JHSC), lead site inspections, and maintain effective Emergency Response Plans.
- Manage the QHSE document control system and analyze performance data and client feedback to improve service delivery and client satisfaction.
- Deliver QHSE orientation, onboarding, and ongoing training, and report regularly to senior leadership on QHSE performance, risks, and opportunities.
The Ideal Candidate:
- Post-secondary education in Occupational Health and Safety, Quality Assurance/Control, or related discipline.
- Minimum 5 years in a senior QHSE leadership role within a technical, industrial, or service-based environment.
- Proven experience developing and managing QHSE systems to ISO 9001, ISO 45001, and COR standards, including audits, investigations, and compliance.
- Familiarity with commercial diving industry standards (e.g., CSA Z275, DCBC, ADCI) considered an asset.
- Familiarity with rules and regulations associated with commercial vehicle operation to ensure safe and lawful compliance.
- Canadian Registered Safety Technician (CRST) required or in progress; Canadian Registered Safety Professional (CRSP) designation a strong asset.
- JHSC Certification (Parts 1 & 2) preferred; First Aid and CPR certification.
- Strong knowledge of applicable safety legislation and industry codes of practice.
- Excellent communication, training, and leadership skills, with strong analytical and organizational abilities.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite; knowledge of SharePoint an asset.
- Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record.
This is an in-office position; minimal travel to project sites and other ASI locations may be required.
Salary range: $75,000–$90,000 per year, plus a performance bonus tied to company growth objectives.
*Actual compensation may vary based on work experience, location, education/training, certifications, knowledge, and skills.
