Overview

Job Title: Part-Time/Relief Developmental Support Worker Location: [ Scarborough ,Brampton and Breslau, ON] Reports to: Supervisor/Primary Worker. Job Summary:The Part-Time/Relief Developmental Support Worker provides support to individuals with behavioural and/or developmental challenges, by assisting in the development of positive behavior strategies and ensuring that each individual's needs are met in a compassionate and professional manner. This role involves working as part of a team to implement behavior management strategies, maintain a safe environment, and promote positive outcomes for individuals in the program. The position is on a casual basis, providing support as required.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Behavioural Support & Intervention:
  • Implement individualized behavioral support plans (BSP) designed to address challenging behaviors.
  • Use evidence-based behavior management techniques to encourage positive behaviors and reduce harmful behaviors.
  • Provide one-on-one support to individuals, guiding them in achieving their personal goals and coping strategies.
  • Monitor and document behavioral changes and report any concerns or incidents to the appropriate supervisor or team members.
  • Individualized Care:
  • Assist individuals with daily activities and tasks, promoting independence and skill development.
  • Support individuals with personal care, mobility, and other daily needs, ensuring their dignity and respect.
  • Offer emotional support and encouragement to individuals, helping them feel safe and comfortable in their environment.
  • Collaboration with Team:
  • Work collaboratively with other staff members, including behavioral specialists, case managers, and family members, to ensure consistent and effective support.
  • Attend team meetings or training sessions as required, contributing insights into the individual's progress and needs.
  • Assist in developing and adjusting individualized care or behavioral plans based on observed needs or feedback.
  • Safety & Crisis Management:
  • Maintain a safe and supportive environment by ensuring that any risks to the individual's well-being are addressed promptly.
  • Respond appropriately in crisis situations, following de-escalation techniques and emergency protocols.
  • Report any incidents or concerns related to the safety of individuals to the appropriate supervisor or manager.
  • Documentation & Reporting:
  • Keep accurate, up-to-date records on individuals' progress, behaviors, and incidents, in line with organizational policies.
  • Assist with preparing progress reports for case reviews or assessments as needed.
  • Document any changes in behavior or circumstances that might require an adjustment to care or behavior management strategies.

Qualifications:

  • Education:
  • Post-secondary education in Developmental Support worker, Child and Youth Worker, or a related field .
  • Training in behaviour management or therapeutic techniques (e.g., Applied Behaviour Analysis) is a plus.
  • Experience:
  • Previous experience in a support role for individuals with behavioral challenges or disabilities (e.g., developmental disabilities, autism, mental health issues) is preferred.
  • Experience working in a residential, educational, or community-based setting is an asset.
  • Skills & Abilities:
  • Strong communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Ability to work effectively with individuals who may display challenging behaviors.
  • Patience, empathy, and a non-judgmental approach.
  • Flexibility and the ability to work in a variety of situations and environments.
  • Knowledge of behavior management techniques (e.g., positive reinforcement, de-escalation).
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.

Working Conditions:

  • This is a casual position, meaning hours and shifts are flexible and dependent on the needs of the program or facility.
  • The role may require evening, weekend, or holiday shifts based on the needs of the individuals being supported.
  • The position may involve physical tasks, including assisting with mobility, personal care, and behavior management.
  • There may be some emotional or challenging situations, requiring the ability to remain calm under pressure.
