What We Look For In a College Physics Tutor

• Advanced Subject Mastery: Deep knowledge of classical mechanics, thermodynamics, waves and optics, electricity and magnetism, and modern physics including special relativity and quantum phenomena. Ability to explain Newton laws, conservation principles, electromagnetic theory, wave superposition, and atomic structure while preparing students for advanced physics coursework, engineering prerequisites, and MCAT physical science sections.
• Conceptual Teaching & Problem-Solving: Skilled at breaking down multi-step physics problems involving force analysis, energy conservation, and circuit calculations. Guides students through drawing free-body diagrams, applying kinematics equations, solving electric circuit problems, analyzing wave interference patterns, and interpreting experimental data. Emphasizes connecting mathematical formulations to physical intuition and applies physics to engineering, medical, and technology contexts.
• Curriculum Awareness & Adaptive Instruction: Familiar with introductory college physics curricula for both algebra-based and calculus-based sequences, and common challenges such as vector decomposition, applying conservation laws, and understanding electromagnetic concepts. Adapts instruction using worked problems, PhET simulations, and laboratory-connected examples to support undergraduate students in physics courses for science, engineering, and pre-health programs.
• Effective Teaching Methods: Ability to identify concepts students commonly struggle with, explain material using multiple approaches, and adapt instruction to meet individual learning needs and styles.
• Strong communication skills and a friendly, engaging teaching style.
• Ability to adapt to different learning styles and student needs.
