Job Summary

Step Up Autism Academy is seeking a caring, enthusiastic, and dependable Occupational Therapy Assistant (OTA) to join our team and support children with autism and developmental needs.

The successful candidate will work under the direction and supervision of a Registered Occupational Therapist (OT) to implement individualized therapy activities and support each child's development.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide one-to-one support to children with autism during OT sessions.
  • Implement activities and strategies provided by the supervising Registered OT.
  • Support development of:
  • Fine motor skills
  • Gross motor skills
  • Sensory processing
  • Handwriting and pre-academic skills
  • Self-care and daily living skills
  • Coordination and motor planning
  • Independence and functional skills
  • Follow individualized treatment plans and OT recommendations.
  • Record session information and communicate observations to the supervising OT.
  • Work collaboratively with ABA therapists, speech therapists, teachers, parents, and other professionals.
  • Help prepare therapy materials and maintain an organized therapy environment.
  • Promote positive behaviour, engagement, communication, and independence.
  • Maintain client confidentiality and follow all safety and professional policies.

Qualifications

  • Diploma or education in Occupational Therapy Assistant (OTA/PTA), Child and Youth Care, Developmental Services, Behavioural Science, Early Childhood Education, or a related field.
  • Experience working with children with autism is preferred.
  • Experience in pediatric therapy, ABA, education, or developmental services is an asset.
  • Patient, compassionate, energetic, and reliable.
  • Strong communication and teamwork skills.
  • Comfortable working one-to-one with children.
  • Vulnerable Sector Check required.
  • First Aid/CPR certification is an asset.

Pay: $25.00-$30.00 per hour

Expected hours: 20.0 – 35.0 per week
