We are in search of an Associate Director of Clinical Services (RN) and IPAC Lead for Grace Villa, our Hamilton, ON location.
This is a dual clinical leadership role responsible for supporting the delivery of safe, high-quality, resident-centred care while leading the home’s Infection Prevention and Control (IPAC) program. The Associate Director of Clinical Services and IPAC Lead supports the Director of Clinical Services in supervising the care team, maintaining regulatory compliance, overseeing clinical programs, and protecting residents, team members, and visitors from the transmission of infections.
The successful candidate will provide clinical leadership throughout the home and assume the responsibilities of the Director of Clinical Services during their absence.

THE RESPONSIBILITIES
- Support the Director of Clinical Services in planning, directing, coordinating, and supervising the home’s nursing and clinical services.
- Provide leadership to regulated and non-regulated nursing team members, including recruitment, orientation, scheduling, coaching, performance management, and progressive discipline.
- Assume the responsibilities of the Director of Clinical Services during their absence and participate in the management on-call rotation.
- Promote resident-centred care, resident satisfaction, continuous quality improvement, and a positive team environment throughout the nursing department and home.
- Maintain communication with residents and families, participate in care conferences, and support the resolution of concerns and complaints.
- Review resident applications for admission, assess care requirements, and collaborate with residents, families, placement coordinators, discharge planners, and other stakeholders throughout the admission, transfer, and discharge processes.
- Oversee and support mandated clinical programs, including Skin and Wound Care, Medication Management, Restorative Care, Pain and Symptom Management, Infection Prevention and Control, and other assigned programs.
- Support program development, implementation, monitoring, evaluation, and the establishment of annual goals and action plans.
- Lead the home’s Infection Prevention and Control program in accordance with applicable legislation, regulatory requirements, directives, public health guidance, and accepted best practices.
- Conduct daily IPAC walkabouts, infection surveillance, clinical and environmental audits, and regular reviews of infection-control documentation and practices.
- Collect, monitor, analyze, and report infection data, audit results, antibiotic utilization, and identified trends. Maintain outbreak line listings and complete required monthly surveillance reports.
- Lead outbreak preparedness and response activities, including communication with Public Health, the Ministry of Long-Term Care, residents, families, team members, and other stakeholders.
- Develop, implement, review, and evaluate IPAC policies, procedures, programs, annual goals, and corrective action plans.
- Coordinate and deliver IPAC orientation, education, clinical teaching, competency assessments, and in-person coaching for team members, students, essential caregivers, and other applicable parties.
- Plan and coordinate resident and team member immunization programs, including vaccine ordering, storage, administration, auditing, record maintenance, and regulatory inspections.
- Oversee N95 respirator tracking and fit testing, personal protective equipment inventory and ordering, cytotoxic safety practices, and the home’s safe sharps program.
- Work collaboratively with Environmental Services to monitor cleaning, disinfection, waste management, personal protective equipment practices, and environmental audit results.
- Participate in IPAC communities of practice, local IPAC Hub activities, Public Health education sessions, and other relevant external learning opportunities.
- Collaborate with Public Health inspectors, the Ministry of Long-Term Care, the Ministry of Labour, pharmacy providers, laboratories, physicians, and other internal and external stakeholders.
- Support critical-incident reporting, complaint investigations, risk management, clinical auditing, nursing compliance, and the development and monitoring of corrective action plans.
- Assist with labour relations, attendance management, incident investigations, return-to-work meetings, grievances, and other employee-relations matters affecting the nursing department.
- Support the development and monitoring of the nursing department’s operating budget and ensure the appropriate use and availability of clinical supplies and equipment.
- Monitor medication administration practices and the control, storage, and safekeeping of medications and narcotics.
- Participate in interdisciplinary meetings, the Joint Health and Safety Committee, Professional Advisory Committee meetings, quality meetings, Residents’ Council meetings, accreditation activities, and other committees as required.
- Complete required operational, clinical, statistical, regulatory, and corporate reports accurately and within established timelines.
- Use and maintain applicable clinical and administrative technology platforms, which may include PCC/POC, HealthConnex, SURGE Learning, Pharmapod, StaffStat, OneCall, CareRx, the Ministry of Long-Term Care Homes Portal, Welbi, ClinicalConnect, LifeLabs Launchpad, CHeCS, and TPON.
- Remain flexible regarding working hours and days to support the operational needs of the home, including occasional pre-planned afternoon, night, or weekend shifts.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the Director of Clinical Services, Executive Director, or Senior Management.
EDUCATION AND QUALIFICATIONS
- Bachelor of Science in Nursing or Diploma in Nursing.
- Current registration as a Registered Nurse in good standing with the College of Nurses of Ontario.
- Successful completion of the Queen’s University online IPAC course, or an equivalent course approved by OMNI’s Corporate IPAC Lead, is required.
- Current CPR certification is required.
- A minimum of one year of supervised nursing experience is considered an asset.
- Education or experience in infectious diseases, cleaning and disinfection, infection surveillance, data collection and trend analysis, outbreak management, and regulatory reporting.
- Knowledge of asepsis, microbiology, epidemiology, policy development, antibiotic stewardship, and individualized resident-care practices is considered an asset.
- Experience with quality improvement, program development, clinical education, mandated clinical programs, risk management, clinical auditing, budgeting, and High Intensity Needs Fund requirements is considered an asset.
- Experience working in a unionized long-term care environment, including labour relations, attendance management, incident investigations, and progressive discipline, is considered an asset.
- Experience collaborating with the Ministry of Long-Term Care, Ministry of Labour, Public Health, and other regulatory or healthcare partners is considered an asset.
- Strong leadership, communication, critical-thinking, organization, problem-solving, conflict-resolution, and people-management skills.
- Demonstrated ability to communicate with residents, families, team members, and external stakeholders with empathy, diplomacy, confidentiality, and respect.
