Group Benefits Advisor/Consultant

We are currently seeking a motivated, professional, and client-focused Group Benefits Advisor/Consultant to join our team.

Position Summary

The Group Benefits Consultant is responsible for managing and growing a portfolio of employee benefits clients. This role provides strategic advice to employers on the design, implementation, renewal, and ongoing management of group benefit and retirement programs.

Working closely with clients, insurance carriers, and internal team members, the successful candidate will deliver customized solutions that balance employee needs with organizational objectives while providing exceptional client service.

Key Responsibilities

Client Consulting & Relationship Management

  • Build and maintain strong relationships with an assigned portfolio of clients.
  • Meet with employers to understand their employee benefit objectives and changing business needs.
  • Provide ongoing strategic advice regarding benefit plan design, funding options, and industry best practices.
  • Serve as the primary contact for clients regarding their employee benefits programs.

Plan Design & Renewal Management

  • Prepare and present annual renewal analyses and recommendations.
  • Design customized group benefit solutions, including health, dental, life, disability, critical illness, and employee assistance programs.
  • Coordinate implementation of new benefit plans and carrier transitions.
  • Negotiate plan renewals and market competitive solutions with insurance providers.

Analysis & Reporting

  • Analyze claims experience, utilization trends, and financial reports.
  • Develop recommendations to improve plan performance and manage long-term costs.
  • Prepare professional client presentations and renewal reports.
  • Stay informed of market trends, legislative changes, and new benefit offerings.

Client Service & Administration

  • Coordinate plan changes, employee additions and terminations, and benefit updates.
  • Assist clients with complex claims or coverage issues when required.
  • Work collaboratively with insurance carriers and internal support staff to ensure timely service.
  • Maintain accurate client records and documentation.

Compliance & Industry Knowledge

  • Ensure benefit programs comply with applicable provincial and federal legislation.
  • Provide guidance regarding taxation of benefits, privacy requirements, and regulatory updates.
  • Maintain required licensing and continuing education requirements.

Business Development

  • Identify opportunities to expand relationships with existing clients.
  • Develop new business through referrals, networking, and community involvement.
  • Prepare proposals and presentations for prospective clients.
  • Participate in marketing and business development initiatives as required.

Qualifications

  • LLQP licence (or willingness to obtain shortly after joining).
  • Minimum 3 years of experience in group benefits, employee benefits consulting, or group insurance.
  • Strong knowledge of group health, dental, life, disability, and retirement savings programs.
  • Excellent communication, presentation, and relationship-building skills.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities while maintaining exceptional attention to detail.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office and CRM systems.
  • CEBS, GBA, or other industry designations are considered an asset.
