Department: Clinical Rehabilitation Services/ Surgeon Collaboration / Health

Reports To: Chief Medical Officer (CMO) / COO / Leadership Team

Oversees: Reconditioning / Performance / Research

Location / Work Model: Hybrid / Multi-site / Travel as Required

**While this role is posted under our Edmonton headquarters, we are open to considering candidates from our other Acumen locations. The successful candidate may have the opportunity to work from another Acumen office location. **

1. Role Summary

The Rehabilitation Director is responsible for leading, standardizing, and advancing rehabilitation services across Acumen Health. This role provides strategic leadership to foster a collaborative, patient-first culture while developing high-performing teams aligned with Acumen's values and vision. The Rehabilitation Director ensures high-quality, evidence-informed care delivery across therapy, Strength coaches/kinesiology, research, and related services. They oversee clinical standards, program development, location/team collaboration, patient outcomes, and continuous internal quality improvement while supporting operational excellence, staff development, accountability, and team performance across the organization.

2. Key ResponsibilitiesClinical Leadership & Standards

  • Establish and maintain rehabilitation clinical standards across all providers and sites
  • Ensure evidence-informed practice and consistency (information delivered, language used, etc)
  • Support clinical decision-making frameworks and care pathways
  • Promote best practices in musculoskeletal, orthopedic, and functional rehabilitation
  • Assist in creating the Acumen Gold Standard

Program Development & Innovation

  • Design and refine rehabilitation programs (acute, chronic, post-surgical, return-to-work)
  • Ongoing SOP review and updates
  • Integrate multidisciplinary approaches into rehabilitation models
  • Identify opportunities for new service offerings and program expansion
  • Oversee and collaborate with ongoing research initiatives and growth

Patient Outcomes & Care Quality

  • Monitor patient progress, outcomes, and recovery benchmarks
  • Support complex case management and collaboration
  • Ensure high standards of patient experience throughout rehabilitation journey
  • Implement proper research guidelines internally and to eventually share externally

Team Leadership & Clinical Development

  • Oversee and provide mentorship and clinical leadership and guidance to providers
  • Support onboarding, training, and ongoing professional development
  • Facilitate knowledge sharing
  • Promote a culture of accountability, learning, and excellence

Operational Collaboration

  • Work with operations leadership to optimize patient flow and scheduling
  • Support workload distribution and clinical capacity planning
  • Collaborate on business efficiency improvements without compromising care quality
  • Assist in aligning clinical delivery with organizational goals
  • Collaborate and meet with Surgeons on their needs and improvements

Quality & Compliance

  • Ensure adherence to clinical documentation standards and regulatory requirements
  • Support quality assurance initiatives and clinical audits
  • Identify and address variations in clinical practice
  • Contribute to risk management and patient safety initiatives

6. Required QualificationsEducation

  • Degree in Physiotherapy, Kinesiology, Athletic Therapy, or related rehabilitation field
  • Business experience

Experience

  • Significant experience in rehabilitation or musculoskeletal care
  • Leadership or senior clinical role experience preferred
  • Experience in healthcare environments and working with health care physicians

7. Internal Expectations
