Full job description

Veranda Estate Homes | Calgary, Alberta

We build 15 to 20 luxury custom homes a year. Not 300. Ten to twelve.

That means when a family takes possession of a Veranda home, they are not a file number. They are someone who spent a year of their life and a significant amount of their money trusting us to get it right. Your job is to make sure we do, right up to the day they get the keys, and for the years that follow.

We are looking for one person who is genuinely good with their hands across a wide range of work, who takes real pride in a punch list that comes back clean, and who can stand in a client's brand new kitchen, look them in the eye, and make the problem go away.

What you would actually be doing

Before possession. This is the heart of the role. You walk the home ahead of the client. You find what they would have found, and you fix it first. Paint touch ups, door and hardware adjustments, cabinet and drawer alignment, trim and caulking, drywall repairs, tile and flooring touch ups, deficiency chase-down with our trades. You are the last set of eyes before a client sees their home for the first time, and the standard is that they find nothing.

At possession. You are part of the homeowner orientation. You walk the home with the family, show them how things work, log anything outstanding, and set the tone for the relationship that follows.

After possession. You own the warranty response. Alberta's new home warranty runs 1, 2, 5 and 10 years, and we are members of the Alberta New Home Warranty Program. You take the call, you triage it, and where it is something you can fix, you fix it on the first visit. Where it needs a trade, you coordinate it, you follow it, and you close it out. You keep the homeowner in the loop the whole way.

Throughout. You keep clean records in our systems, you hold our trades to the standard they agreed to, and you flag the patterns. If the same item is coming back on home after home, you are the person who tells us so we can fix it upstream.

This role is built for you if

  • You are the person friends call when something in their house is broken, because you can probably fix it. Drywall, paint, doors, hardware, trim, tile, minor plumbing, minor electrical, general troubleshooting. You know what is inside your lane and you know exactly where the line is.
  • You have worked in residential construction and you understand how a house goes together, which means when something fails you can usually work backward to why.
  • You are comfortable in a client's home. You take your boots off, you clean up after yourself, you explain what you are doing in plain language, and you do not get rattled when someone is frustrated. In luxury homebuilding, how you handle the problem matters as much as the fix.
  • You work on your own most days and you do not need anyone standing over you. You plan your route, you show up when you said you would, and you finish what you started.
  • You would rather do it once, properly, than twice.

This is probably not the right fit if

  • You need a supervisor within eyesight to stay productive.
  • You are a specialist in one trade and have no interest in the rest. This role is deliberately broad.
  • You see a callback as somebody else's fault. In this job the callback is the work.
  • You are not comfortable being in front of homeowners. A big part of this role is human, not mechanical.

Requirements

  • Solid, demonstrable general repair and finishing skills across multiple trades
  • Experience in residential construction, renovation, warranty or service work
  • Valid Class 5 Alberta driver's licence and a clean abstract
  • Own hand tools
  • Ability to lift, climb ladders, and work in homes under construction
  • Clear written communication for logging and closing warranty tickets

Nice to have but not required: Red Seal carpentry ticket, experience with Buildertrend or similar, prior work with a custom or luxury builder, familiarity with the Alberta New Home Warranty Program.

What we offer

  • Compensation. $70,000 to $90,000 depending on what you bring, with overtime paid in accordance with Alberta employment standards.
  • Vehicle. Company truck, fuel card, and phone. You are not putting kilometres on your own vehicle.
  • Benefits. Full health and dental package.
  • Tools. Annual tool allowance, plus we supply the consumables and specialty equipment.
  • The work itself. Veranda has been building in Calgary since 1974. Over 350 homes built, multiple SAM Awards, and a reputation we have protected for five decades. You would be working in homes where the finishes are exceptional and the standard is real. If you take pride in your craft, you will not be asked to cut a corner here.
  • The team. We are small enough that you will know everyone's name and your work will be visible. You will report to our Construction and Warranty lead and work alongside our site superintendents in Legacy and the inner city.

How to apply

Send us a resume and a short note. Not a cover letter template. Just tell us, in your own words, about one repair you were proud of and one you learned something from.

If you are the right person, we will move quickly.

Veranda Estate Homes is an equal opportunity employer. We hire on merit, skill and fit, and we welcome applications from everyone.
