Skylark Management Corp. is actively seeking a full-time general labourer looking to work on a diverse range of parks, trails, landscaping, and other interesting projects throughout the Lower Mainland. We currently have a contract building a staircase on the Baden Powell Trail in Lynn Headwater park that is expected to be completed Oct 2026. The staircase is approximately 150m long with steel foundations and superstructure and wood decking and railings. We are primarily hiring for this contract, with the potential of future work depending on your overall fit and performance and our fall/winter workload. Standard hours o this project are currently 4 x 10 hour days from Monday-Thursday with Friday's off, but this is subject to change back to 5 x 8 hour days Monday to Friday.

Company Overview

  • Company based out of Maple Ridge. Hiring for project in North Vancouver.
  • Most of our work is local, but outside of the major city centers, and off busy roads. We’re typically working in parks, forests, streams, rural subdivisions, etc.
  • Our main focus is on parks and recreational infrastructure, including: Trails (both machine, and hand-built), boardwalks, pedestrian bridges, fencing, etc.
  • We also do environmental restoration (fish habitat, riparian planting, etc), landscaping, and civil construction (with a focus on in-stream and environmentally sensitive projects).
  • We are a smaller-sized crew of good people that likes to have fun while working hard and doing quality work. We aim to surround ourselves with a great team of competent people to continue to get better at what we do.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Assisting foreman, carpenter, and equipment operator
  • Physically demanding manual work (moving heavy materials up steep slopes, lots of sledge hammer work, shoveling, raking, moving rocks, lumber and other materials by hand or wheelbarrow, etc.)
  • Performing basic carpentry tasks and use of other basic hand tools
  • Operate compactor and other small equipment
  • May be required to work at heights (for example, assisting with re-decking a pedestrian bridge).
  • Install environmental controls
  • Other labour duties as assigned

Employment Requirements:

  • We are looking for a candidate with previous construction experience, but are also willing to train the right candidates without experience. All candidates must have a good attitude and work ethic.
  • Experience in trail building, carpentry, landscaping, civil construction, forestry, farming, and basically all outdoor trades will be considered an asset.
  • OFA level 1 and other first aid training will be considered an asset.
  • Enjoys working outdoors, and is willing to work in any weather. Employees are responsible for their own proper raingear.
  • Owns steel toed work boots, and is comfortable wearing other company provided PPE as required.
  • Owns vehicle, has valid driver's license, and able to travel to sites across the Lower Mainland (North Van for this first project).
  • Willing to work out of town occasionally if required on future projects (paid travel and LOA). We prefer to work close to home, but will take the occasional out of town job if it's the right fit.
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule. We aim for 8 hour shifts Mon-Fri. Depending on the project, we often work longer hours in the summer months, and are sometimes constrained by the weather in the colder/wetter months.
  • Ability to lift heavy objects 50lbs+ up and down slopes and over challenging terrain.
  • High level of physical fitness.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $22.00-$28.00 per hour

Application question(s):

  • How would you rate your current level of physical fitness? Describe why you think you would be able to do physically demanding tasks like carrying heavy objects up and down steep slopes and sledgehammering rebar into the ground for stair foundations for up to 10 hours a day?
  • What interests you about this job?
  • Why do you think you're a good fit for this position?

Experience:

  • Construction: 1 year (preferred)
