We have an opening for a Full Time Security Officer to join our professional in-house security team based at Nova Centre in downtown Halifax. Nova Centre is a 1-million-square-footmixed development includes: retail space, a convention centre, commercial space, a hotel, restaurants and a 2 level parkade.

Responsibilities Include:

  • Provide exceptional customer service to tenants and members of the public. Welcome them to the building and answer general inquiries (e.g., providing directions, etc. );
  • Provide a visible presence on the premises that enforces safety and security – particularly during high traffic times of the day;
  • Conduct regular foot patrols of the premise – identity and investigate any suspicious behaviour, threats and irregular activity;
  • Monitor our video surveillance system CCTV– identify and investigate any suspicious behaviour, threats and irregular activity;
  • Respond to emergency and security situations and including power outages, fire alarms, physical disturbances, etc. and provide proper response (police, fire, ambulance). Provide an Incident Report of the incident;
  • Prevent unauthorized entry and politely direct disruptive individuals to leave the premises;
  • Write clear and comprehensive reports utilizing our innovative electronic reporting software;
  • Monitor parkade to ensure traffic flowing in and out smoothly, deal with any issues as they arise;
  • Control Access to the property, this may include escorting contractors;
  • Provide specialized security services and sustain effective relationships with key stakeholders;
  • Act as ambassador of the Company – portray a positive, professional image as the face of the Company;
  • You will also be responsible for ensuring that policies and procedures are adhered to and enforced;

Education & Experience:

  • High school diploma;
  • Previous experience working in a security position is an asset, but not required.
  • Relevant post-secondary education (corrections; police foundations, etc.) would be an asset.

Skills and Abilities:

  • Strong interpersonal skills – ability to develop relationships with tenants and members of the public and portray and positive Company image;
  • Attentive, aware of surrounding and strong attention to detail. Ability to discern when things are not as they should be;
  • Dependable and punctual; a team player;
  • Ability to utilize technology and computer software;
  • Ability to solve problems, make decisions and respond to emergencies under pressure;
  • Excellent verbal and written English communication skills, including report writing.
  • Discretion when handling confidential and private information;
  • Ability, to stand and walk (indoors and outdoors) for extended periods of time;
  • Criminal background check required;
