Job Description:

Deep Cove Music is looking for an experienced instructor to teach 1 to 2 days a week on site at our location in North Vancouver, for both private lessons and a student band.

We are specifically looking for a music instructor with the following expertise:

  • Guitar (required)
  • Drums (required)
  • Bass (preferred)
  • Other (preferred)
  • The more additional instruments you can teach the better! The more likely we can get you students and fill up your schedule.

We are specifically looking for a teacher available on Saturdays from 10:00am - 5:00pm, with the possibility of other days being available.

This position will also involve teaching a student rock band as part of our Band Factory program.

Lessons are offered in person and virtual and are taught from our studios; equipped with instruments, mac computers, and recording equipment.

Age of students can range from 5 years old to seniors, and all levels of experience. We ask teachers to be vigilant in the encouragement of their students' progress and prepare them for personal goals and recitals/events.

Deep Cove Music & Arts Centre is a music, acting, & film school, and store in Deep Cove, North Vancouver established in 1997. We have brought years of excellent service and education to the lower mainland and the Deep Cove community. Private Lesson Duties:

  • Develop and implement music lesson plans for students of various ages and skill levels
  • Teach students how to read sheet music, play instruments, and understand music theory
  • Plan, organize and attend recitals, concerts, and other performances for students to showcase their talents
  • Assess student progress and provide constructive feedback to help them improve their musical abilities
  • Collaborate with other music teachers and staff members to coordinate curriculum and activities
  • Have the ability to commute to, and teach at our studios weekly in Deep Cove, North Vancouver.

Band Factory Duties:

  • Develop and implement lesson plans for weekly 90 minute student rock band sessions
  • Prepare the band for two live performances throughout the year (Tribute Show: two cover songs. Battle of the Bands: two original songs)
  • Encourage collaboration and cooperation between band members
  • Support students on their individual parts for each song
  • Guide the band through other learning objectives throughout the year: production, handling equipment, theory, performance, improvisation, business

Requirements and Skills:

  • Must be available 3:00 - 9:00 PM on teaching days during the week, or 10:00 - 5:00 pm on teaching days during the weekend
  • Proficiency in teaching guitar and drums required, other instruments (bass, piano, vocals, woodwinds, brass, strings) is an asset
  • Having a musical degree, or equivalent in education/ experience is an asset
  • Strong knowledge of music theory and the ability to teach it effectively in a fun and inspiring way
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to connect with students and parents
  • Ability to teach a group program of up to 6 students in a band
  • Patience and the ability to adapt teaching methods to meet the needs of different learners
  • Organizational skills to plan lessons, schedule performances, and manage student records
  • Ability to play modern music and hits
  • Willing to commit to a one year contract (September to June) that may continue on the agreement of both parties.We work with instructors to set a competitive contractual rate based on their experience and qualifications.
