About the position

The Medical Laboratory Technician (Andrology) reports to the Laboratory Supervisor and supports our Andrology, Phlebotomy, and IVF laboratories by performing procedures associated with the diagnostic and therapeutic treatment services provided by Anova. Primary responsibilities include processing and analyzing semen specimens for male fertility assessments and treatments, while secondary responsibilities include collecting blood and other specimens from patients in a timely manner; and maintaining patient records, lab documents, log sheets, and chart results. Rotation on the schedule for long weekends and statutory holidays will be a requirement for this position. Crucially, you will share the Founder, Dr. Marjorie Dixon’s commitment to being the gold standard for successful reproductive health and fertility centres.

Main Duties and Responsibilities

General

· Collaborates effectively with colleagues across departments

· Consistently arrives at work, appointments, meetings, and events on time

· Writes clearly and informatively and edits work for spelling and grammar

· Handles expected share of workload at required quality level (productivity)

· Maintains confidentiality and security of business and patient information

· Complies with policies and standards, as amended from time to time

· Completes all required training to perform job duties effectively

Role-specific

· Plans carefully to ensure that procedures are performed efficiently

· Explains process of specimen collection to patients in calm and friendly way

· Carries out semen analysis, sperm cryopreservation, and related laboratory procedures

· Prepares sperm specimens for procedures like IUI and IVF

· Collects, freezes and stores sperm samples in containers, at required temperature

· Matches laboratory forms to specimens, labels these, and packages for transport

· Checks all test requisitions or computer label to ensure 100% accuracy

· Maintains equipment and ensures accuracy and reliability of laboratory procedures and results, as part of Quality Control

· Conducts quality tests and carries out various laboratory procedures as per protocols

· Performs audits of equipment to ensure that this functions correctly

· Assists with maintenance of equipment and cleaning of laboratory

· Adheres to standardized infection control protocols

· Identifies abnormal patient conditions and alerts supervisor, physicians, or nurses

· Maintains patient result records, lab documents, log sheets, and chart results

· Helps prepare site for visits by certification and licensing entities

· Maintains clinical competence through practice, education, and research

Qualifications

· At least one (1) year of experience working in clinical laboratory, specifically in semen analysis, sperm cryopreservation, and related laboratory procedures

· Medical Laboratory Technician diploma

· Current CSLMS or MLPAO certification required

· Documented training in all areas of clinical laboratory

· Knowledge of regulatory standards and compliance requirements

· Knowledge of customer service principles and practices

· Working knowledge of relevant software applications

· Strong communication and interpersonal skills
