ivari is part of Sagicor Financial Corporation, a leading financial services provider with over 185 years of history operating across the Caribbean, US, and Canada. We offer a wide range of products and services, including life and health insurance, annuities, pension administration and investment services.
At ivari, everyone is welcome! It is our mission to attract, develop, and retain a workforce that is as diverse as the customers we serve and the communities in which we do business. We offer an inclusive and accessible work environment where all employees and customers feel valued, respected, and supported.
Job Opportunity: Senior Underwriter
Are you an experienced Life and Critical Illness underwriter looking for a role where your voice, judgment, and professional growth truly matter? At ivari, we’re building the future of underwriting in Canada—and we’d love you to be part of it.
Why This Role is Special:
As a Senior Underwriter, you’ll play a meaningful role in shaping underwriting decisions for Canadians coast to coast. You’ll apply your underwriting expertise, collaborate closely with advisors, internal and external partners, and help elevate underwriting standards across the organization.
This is more than a job—it’s a chance to influence how underwriting is done in a company that genuinely respects the craft. This is an existing position.[DC2]
What You’ll Do:
- Apply your medical, financial, and lifestyle underwriting expertise to make sound, confident decisions.
- Build strong, respectful relationships with advisors, distributors, and internal partners.
- Deliver exceptional service rooted in clarity, empathy, and professionalism.
- Identify opportunities for improvement and help shape underwriting best practices.
- Contribute to impactful projects involving technology, processes, and underwriting philosophy.
What You Bring:
- 5+ years experience in individual life and critical illness underwriting, including medical, non-medical, and financial risk assessment.
- Proven ability to underwrite complex cases at higher approval authority limits, balancing risk selection with competitive decisions.
- Strong analytical and critical thinking skills, with the ability to synthesize evidence and guidelines to arrive at competitive decisions.
- Effective communication and relationship-management skills, including collaboration with advisors, reinsurers, and internal team members.
- Comfort operating in regulated environments, with consistent adherence to underwriting philosophy, audit requirements, privacy and disclosure requirements.
- Experience contributing to underwriting improvement initiatives, such as guideline development, process optimization, and technology adoption.
- commitment to continuous professional development, including progress toward or completion of industry designations (FLMI, FALU, CPU).
What we pay:
Pay Range: $85,000 - $110,000
What We Offer:
We value expertise—and we show it.
- Competitive base salary plus bonus
- Comprehensive health & dental benefits for the whole family starting Day 1
- 100% employer-matched pension plan
- Employee savings plan with 75% match
- A generous vacation program
- Flexible, hybrid work arrangements
- Professional development opportunities and support
- Recognition programs that celebrate your achievements
- Wellness programs to keep you energized and thriving
Who You Are:
You thrive in a culture built on respect, authenticity, and collaboration. You take ownership, stay flexible, and bring clarity and focus to your work. You enjoy partnering with others and solving complex underwriting challenges with curiosity and commitment.
If that sounds like you—you’ll feel right at home here.
Ready to Apply?
Does this sound like you? We’re looking for great people to join our team!
Our commitment to inclusivity is reflected in the safeguards, policies and commitments we have in place to remove barriers and provide equal opportunities to prospective and current employees, without discrimination.
