Full job description

About the Role

Faith & Serenity Care Group is a values-driven, non-clinical home care agency providing compassionate, person-centered support to adults and seniors in private home settings.

We are currently seeking an experienced, compassionate, and highly reliable caregiver to provide consistent support to an adult client living with advanced dementia and significant mobility limitations in a private home in Sherwood Park.

This is a high-touch, hands-on personal care assignment requiring confidence and previous experience with dementia support, mechanical lifts, transfers, toileting, mobility assistance, and personal care.

The successful caregiver will work primarily with one consistent client and family, making reliability, punctuality, professionalism, communication, and relationship-building especially important.

This position is ideal for an experienced caregiver seeking a stable weekend assignment with the opportunity to gradually build additional weekday hours.

Important Classification Note

This position is classified internally as a Personal Home Support Worker (Non-Clinical) role.

The position does not involve nursing, medication administration, or other regulated clinical or medical duties.

Schedule & Hours

The current core schedule provides approximately 16 hours per week, primarily Friday evenings and weekends.

Current Core Schedule

Friday

  • 9:00 AM–12:00 PM
  • 5:00 PM–7:00 PM

Saturday – Split Shift

  • 9:00 AM–12:00 PM
  • 3:00 PM–7:00 PM

Sunday – Split Shift

  • 9:00 AM–12:00 PM
  • 3:00 PM–7:00 PM

Potential Additional Hours

There may be opportunities to increase the successful caregiver's hours over time based on client needs, caregiver availability, and service growth.

Potential additional hours may include:

  • Friday morning: 9:00 AM–12:00 PM
  • Additional weekday daytime or evening hours
  • Temporary coverage opportunities
  • Additional client assignments as services expand

If the Friday morning shift becomes part of the regular schedule, this assignment would increase from approximately 16 to 19 hours per week.

Additional weekday and coverage hours may also become available.

Additional hours are based on client and service needs and are not guaranteed.

Important Scheduling Consideration

Saturday and Sunday are split-shift days, requiring two separate visits to the client's home.

Applicants should carefully consider the schedule, commute, and split-shift structure before applying.

We are specifically seeking someone who can make a consistent, ongoing commitment to the core Friday evening and weekend schedule.

Candidates interested in building additional hours are encouraged to identify their weekday availability during the application process.

Key Responsibilities

The Personal Home Support Worker will be responsible for providing safe, respectful, and person-centered support in accordance with the client's established care plan and agency expectations.

Responsibilities include:

  • Providing hands-on personal care, including toileting, hygiene and dressing
  • Assisting with safe transfers using a mechanical lift
  • Supporting mobility, repositioning and physical comfort
  • Providing dementia-informed care, reassurance and redirection
  • Supporting established daily routines
  • Assisting with wheelchair and supportive seating routines, including Broda-style seating
  • Preparing simple meals according to established client preferences and care instructions
  • Remaining attentive and present during meals and established care routines
  • Providing companionship and meaningful engagement
  • Performing light housekeeping directly related to client care
  • Maintaining a safe, respectful and comfortable home environment
  • Communicating professionally with the client, family members and agency care coordination team
  • Completing required visit documentation accurately and promptly
  • Following established care instructions and agency procedures
  • Promptly reporting changes, concerns, incidents or other relevant observations to the agency

Reliability & Attendance Expectations

Consistent attendance and punctuality are essential requirements of this position.

The scheduled visits provide important ongoing support and respite to the client and family. Caregivers must therefore be able to reliably fulfill the schedule they accept.

The successful candidate must be able to:

  • Arrive and be ready to provide care at the scheduled start time
  • Remain for the full duration of every scheduled visit
  • Reliably maintain the established weekend schedule
  • Communicate proactively with the agency
  • Notify the agency promptly if an unforeseen emergency or delay occurs
  • Follow agency procedures regarding absences and schedule changes
  • Accurately document actual arrival and departure times
  • Maintain reliable communication throughout the assignment

If your current employment, school, family, transportation, or other commitments regularly conflict with weekend or split-shift availability, please carefully consider whether this assignment is the right fit before applying.

Work Environment

This position takes place in a private residence in Sherwood Park, Alberta.

The care environment includes:

  • One primary client
  • Family members who are actively involved in the client's care
  • Two dogs in the home
  • Mechanical lift

  • Personal care
  • Dementia-informed communication
