The Opportunity

TruGreen Metal is growing across the Canadian prairies and with that comes opportunities for the right individuals to grow and advance within our company.

We are looking for a skilled and experienced Excavator Operator and Crew Lead. The full-time position will be based out of Regina, Saskatchewan. The Excavator Operator is responsible for the safe, efficient, and productive operation of excavator equipment to support mobile scrap metal collection, processing, and loading activities. This role works across customer sites, yards, farms, and industrial locations and plays a key role in managing large volumes of scrap material. In addition to equipment operation, the Excavator Operator provides on-site crew leadership, helping coordinate work activities, maintain safety standards, and support efficient job execution.

How you’ll spend your time

  • 65–75% Operating Equipment: Running the excavator to load, sort, and manage scrap metal at active job sites
  • 10–15% Crew Leadership & Coordination: Directing crew activities, sequencing work, and ensuring safety and productivity standards are met
  • 5–10% Site Support & Labour: Assisting with ground tasks, material handling, and site setup or cleanup
  • 5–10% Equipment Inspections & Maintenance: Conducting pre-shift inspections, basic maintenance, and reporting mechanical concerns

Key Responsibilities

  • Operate excavator equipment safely and efficiently to load, move, and process scrap metal
  • Load scrap metal into trailers, roll-off bins, and transport trucks
  • Manage and organize large scrap piles, including material separation and consolidation
  • Support mobile scrap removal operations at customer locations, including industrial, agricultural, and commercial sites
  • Perform daily equipment inspections and basic maintenance (fueling, greasing, reporting deficiencies)
  • Lead and support on-site crews by leading daily meeting, providing direction, prioritizing tasks, and ensuring work is completed safely and efficiently
  • Act as a point of contact on-site to coordinate activities between equipment operators, and drivers
  • Enforce safety procedures, company policies, and site-specific requirements
  • Complete required load documentation, tickets, or digital records accurately
  • Provide support with Driver and Skid Steer operations as needed, not afraid to roll up your sleeves to help the crew and ensure the job gets done.

Qualifications & Experience

  • Minimum of 3 years Class 1 A driving experience with a manual transmission is required.
  • Ability to perform physically demanding duties. Physical fitness is required with the ability to lift 50lbs or more, climb ladders, walk long distances, frequent bending and picking up objects off the ground etc.
  • Proven experience operating excavators in industrial, construction, demolition, or scrap metal environments
  • Strong understanding of safe equipment operation and hazard awareness
  • Demonstrated ability to provide on-site crew leadership and work coordination
  • Experience in mobile or field-based operations is an asset
  • Strong communication, problem-solving, and time-management skills
  • Dependable, safety-focused, and able to work independently

This position requires candidates to

  • Have and maintain a valid Class 1 drivers license with a clean drivers abstract.
  • Successfully complete pre-employment screening including drug and alcohol testing.
  • Successfully complete a background check.
  • Work extended hours and travel to various work sites with overnight stays away from home on a 5 on, 3 off schedule (4 nights on the road and 4 nights at home).
