We ask “why” because clarity fuels great ideas, trust, and creative thinking. It’s a culture where curiosity is encouraged, voices are (truly) heard, and people grow fast. These are just some of the reasons people thrive and grow at Brain Box.

Position Overview

We are expanding our team and looking for talented individuals that also add to our culture.

We're hiring a Senior UI/UX Designer to lead our client work end-to-end; websites, large and small, and the web and mobile applications where flows, states, and edge cases matter as much as the visuals. You'll wireframe, build hi-fi UI, partner with our team on concepts, and independently drive the rest of the site or app.

You'll defend the "why" behind every layout and aesthetic decision in client meetings and Loom walkthroughs, juggle multiple active engagements in a small senior team, estimate your own time honestly, and bring the same care to Visual QA that you brought to the design itself.

What You’ll Do

  • Own end-to-end design on web and mobile application projects — from wireframes through hi-fi UI to dev handoff, delivering to a PDM in sprint or waterfall workflows depending on the projects.
  • Participate in client discovery and whiteboarding sessions when your project load allows — and when it doesn't, work from the SOW, scope and session notes to start wireframing independently.
  • Present wireframe and design concepts rationale to clients, explain the "why" behind layout, hierarchy, aesthetic direction, and visual decisions section by section.
  • Design logic, not just layouts — for product and application work, think through flows, states, and edge cases during wireframing, design, and work closely with Devs, QA and PDM.
  • Handle client feedback with judgment — apply low-cost changes or those that genuinely strengthen the work, and push back constructively when a change will hurt the design or the build, explaining the trade-offs and letting the client make the final call.
  • Maintain a real design system for our long-standing client; for tighter agency engagements, deliver a focused style guide (typography, colour, CTA states, motion guidance) that's sufficient for a clean build.
  • Lead Visual QA across desktop, tablet, and mobile — flag the details (spacing, type, line height, nav-on-scroll, sticky CTAs, hover states) in tickets, and responsive behaviour clearly (designing tablet screens, or specifying how sections should stack or restructure between breakpoints).
  • Juggle multiple active projects with strong time management — and proactively flag when you're at capacity rather than letting a deadline slip silently.

What You Bring

  • 7+ years of experience in web, UI and UX design
  • 1-2 years in a start-up or agency environment
  • A portfolio that shows real range — web and mobile applications (where flows, states, and edge cases matter), and websites at every scale, from landing pages to large multi-page builds.
  • Strong experience with user experience (UX) and user interface (UI) design
  • Experience with mobile app user interface
  • Experience creating and maintaining design systems and component libraries
  • Proven experience with accurate time estimation and creating quality work within time constraints
  • Exceptional verbal and written communication skills to speak and present the “why” behind design decisions to both internal and external stakeholders (including design impact on development and how design decisions align with business goals and user needs)
  • The ability to estimate your own time honestly, in both best- and worst-case scenarios, and deliver against those estimates across overlapping projects.
  • Experience producing the information architecture artifacts a project needs — site maps for websites, user flows for applications — and the judgment to know which is appropriate when.
  • A demonstrable quality bar for Visual QA — you can compare developed pages against the design and catch what's off in spacing, type, motion, and states.
  • History of mentoring and coaching more junior designers

Nice to Have

  • Motion and interaction design fluency — After Effects, Lottie, or similar. Working knowledge of animation principles
  • Comfort reading and discussing HTML/CSS — enough to talk through responsive behaviour with developers and understand why something built a certain way will or won't hold up.
  • Exposure to design analytics — heatmaps, A/B testing, or Google Analytics — for projects where data should inform iteration.
  • Experience doing customer interviews

Who You Are

  • A self-starter with the ability to multitask and manage various tasks in a fast-paced environment
  • A collaborative team member who can also work independently
  • Obsessed with the design industry, design trends and sustainable design that stands the test of time
  • A critical thinker who chases the "why" behind every requirement and design decision, and is comfortable working through ambiguity to find a clear path forward.'
  • Calm and confident in client-facing settings — you can present your thinking, take real-time feedback, and disagree constructively when the work calls for it.
  • Quality-obsessed without being precious — you hold the design and the build to the same high bar, but you also know when to ship and when to push.
  • Possess a tenacious "can-do" attitude, always willing to go the extra mile to ensure the success of your team
  • Highly organized and consistent, with strong attention to detail and an ability to manage time, take precise notes, and follow through expertly
