Full job description

Job Summary

We are seeking a dynamic and innovative Women’s Apparel Designer specializing in Loungewear and Sleepwear to join our creative team on a contract basis. In this role, you will develop stylish, comfortable, and commercially relevant designs that reflect current trends and resonate with modern women.

The successful candidate will combine strong fashion sensibility with technical expertise in garment construction, fabrics, trims, fit, and manufacturing. You will contribute to the full product-development lifecycle, from trend research and concept development through technical design, sampling, fittings, revisions, and production.

This role offers an exciting opportunity to help shape our women’s loungewear and sleepwear collections in a collaborative, hands-on environment. The contract may lead to a full-time position based on business needs and performance.

Responsibilities

  • Research seasonal fashion trends, colors, silhouettes, fabrics, trims, prints, and design details relevant to women’s loungewear and sleepwear.
  • Conceptualize and develop original, stylish, comfortable, and commercially viable apparel designs aligned with the brand’s aesthetic and target customer.
  • Create mood boards, trend boards, color boards, and seasonal concept presentations to establish the creative direction for each collection.
  • Develop professional technical sketches and flat drawings that clearly communicate garment construction, proportions, design details, and specifications.
  • Prepare presentation boards by theme, including technical sketches, colorways, fabrics, trims, prints, artwork, inspirational imagery, and other relevant design information.
  • Develop cohesive collections with clear themes, color stories, silhouette direction, and target-customer focus.
  • Research, source, and develop prints and patterns, including multiple colorways and garment applications.
  • Use digital design tools to create sketches, technical drawings, visual presentations, artwork, and product-development materials.
  • Collaborate with the Director of Merchandising & Product Development to develop collections in accordance with the seasonal SKU plan and overall product strategy.
  • Work closely with Product Development and the Production Coordinator on fabric and trim selection, garment construction, fit, costing, samples, and revisions.
  • Participate in sample reviews and fittings, identify design, construction, and fit issues, and provide clear comments and revisions.
  • Prepare accurate and complete design and development packages for sampling, development, and production.
  • Apply knowledge of fabric textures, construction methods, fit, functionality, and comfort to enhance product quality and wearability.
  • Use appropriate AI-assisted and digital tools to support trend research, concept development, visualization, presentations, and product-development workflows while maintaining professional design judgment and technical accuracy.
  • Stay informed about fashion movements, innovative materials, color palettes, prints, and design techniques relevant to women’s casual apparel.

Requirements

  • Minimum 5 years of relevant women’s apparel design experience.
  • Previous experience designing women’s loungewear and/or sleepwear is strongly preferred.
  • Strong knowledge of garment construction, manufacturing processes, fit, fabrics, trims, prints, and garment detailing.
  • Excellent technical sketching and flat-drawing skills using traditional or digital methods.
  • Strong understanding of color, silhouettes, trends, prints, patterns, and commercial fashion.
  • Demonstrated ability to develop a collection from research and concept through sampling, revisions, and production.
  • Ability to develop and professionally present multiple colorways, prints, patterns, and design options.
  • Proficiency in Adobe Illustrator and Adobe Photoshop, or comparable professional apparel-design software.
  • Experience with CAD software for pattern making, technical specifications, or apparel visualization is an asset.
  • Familiarity with Adobe InDesign, Adobe After Effects, Maya, SketchUp, or other 3D and presentation tools is an asset.
  • Knowledge of graphic design principles, typography, visual presentation, and artwork development.
  • Familiarity with HTML and CSS for digital content or e-commerce visuals is an asset.
  • Strong understanding of fabric textures, construction methods, fit, functionality, and comfort factors specific to loungewear and sleepwear.
  • Strong organizational, time-management, and attention-to-detail skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and work effectively both independently and collaboratively.
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to clearly present design concepts to Merchandising, Product Development, Production, and other stakeholders.
  • Experience working directly with garment manufacturers and supporting products through sampling and production is preferred.
