With over 3,800 employees and over 30 global manufacturing brands, AGI is a leading provider of equipment and technology solutions for agricultural commodities including seed, fertilizer, grain and feed systems and an expanding platform for food processing facilities.

The Opportunity

The Project Engineer in Training supports the engineering, project management and commissioning teams in the design, coordination, installation, and start-up of food processing systems. Working under the guidance of experienced engineers and project leaders, the EIT assists with equipment assessments, utility and infrastructure requirements, Process Flow Diagrams, layouts, technical documentation, and project execution. This role is designed to build practical engineering capability while the individual progresses toward their professional engineering designation.

Responsibilities:

  • Assist with engineering design activities, including equipment layouts, Process Flow Diagrams, utility requirements, equipment sizing calculations, technical specifications, installation requirements and engineering documentation.
  • Support project engineers and project managers with planning, scheduling, coordination, documentation, and follow-up on assigned project activities.
  • Support equipment selection, vendor evaluations, technical bid reviews, procurement activities, and coordination with suppliers, fabricators, contractors, and installation partners.
  • Prepare and maintain engineering check-out, equipment acceptance testing, start-up, validation, and project close-out documents.
  • Participate in site assessments, field measurements, utility audits, and existing equipment evaluations to support project scoping, design, and execution activities.
  • Participate in installation oversight, commissioning, start-up, troubleshooting, performance verification, and customer handover activities under the direction of senior engineering staff.
  • Help identify technical issues, project risks, dependencies, and changes; document findings and escalate matters requiring senior review.
  • Support the evaluation of process utility requirements including compressed air, steam, water, electrical distribution, refrigeration, drainage and sanitation systems.
  • Assist with the review and coordination of controls, instrumentation, electrical, and automation requirements, including interfacing with internal controls teams and third-party suppliers.
  • Collect, organize, analyze, and report project data, technical information, action items, and progress metrics.
  • Collaborate with mechanical, process, controls, fabrication, installation procurement, and project management teams to support successful project delivery.
  • Apply AGI engineering practices, project procedures, quality standards, and applicable safety and regulatory requirements.
  • Build technical knowledge through coaching, hands-on project experience, and ongoing professional development toward engineering licensure.
  • Manage assigned priorities and deadlines while seeking guidance when scope, risk, or technical complexity exceeds the role’s level of authority.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in mechanical, chemical, process, food, or a related engineering discipline from a recognized institution.
  • Actively working toward registration and eventual professional engineering designation in the applicable jurisdiction.
  • Recent engineering graduate or up to 2 years of relevant engineering experience. Co-op, internship, design project, manufacturing, construction, or food processing experience will be considered.
  • Foundational knowledge of engineering drawings, equipment layouts, process flows, specifications, calculations, and technical documentation.
  • Exposure to food processing environments, hygienic equipment design, GMP requirements, CFIA/FDA standards, sanitary piping practices, and food safety principles is considered an asset.
  • Exposure to industrial construction, equipment installation, manufacturing, food processing, or system integration environments is an asset.
  • Basic understanding of project execution principles including scheduling, budgeting, change management, procurement, and project controls is an asset.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office; experience with AutoCAD, Inventor, SolidWorks, Revit, or similar engineering design software is considered an asset.
  • Strong analytical, organizational, problem-solving, and written and verbal communication skills.
  • Demonstrated initiative, attention to detail, openness to coaching, and ability to complete assigned work with appropriate guidance.
  • Ability to travel locally and internationally up to approximately 25%, depending on project requirements.
