Full job description

The Shuswap Nation Tribal Council (SNTC) was established in 1980 as a collective effort of Secwépemc Chiefs to advocate for Aboriginal rights and advance Nation-building initiatives.

The Vision of SNTC is: One Nation, healthy, unified and engaged, grounded in traditional laws, culture, values and language.

THE OPPORTUNITY

SNTC is seeking a full-time Administrative Assistant to support its departments in their work to implement the Secwépemc Nation vision and strategic plan.

Key responsibilities

  • Administrative: Handle enquiries (phone, mail, email), coordinate information flow, and maintain office environment and supplies.
  • Accounts: Maintain budgets, track expenses, process payments (cheque requisitions, travel claims, honoraria), and draft/edit materials (briefing notes, updates).
  • Records Management: Establish and maintain records systems, compile/analyze data for reporting.
  • Meeting & Event Coordination: Organize meetings (agendas, invites, minutes), coordinate events and travel, participate in meetings and gatherings.
  • Information Sharing: Draft notices, posters and social media content ensuring alignment with SNTC style guides.

Qualifications

  • Minimum 2 years office experience or equivalent education/training.
  • Proficiency with MS Office Suite (including CoPilot, PowerPoint, Excel financial formulas).
  • Experience with office equipment, records management, and social media.
  • Strong writing, editing, minute-taking, and organizational skills.
  • Professionalism and cultural sensitivity; familiarity with First Nations organizations and governance.
  • Preference for candidates with Grade 12, post-secondary business/admin training, First Nations experience, and knowledge of Secwépemc language/culture.

Other Requirements

  • In-person role based at SNTC office based on Tk’emlúps te Secwépemc territory, situated within the unceded ancestral lands of the Secwépemc Nation.
  • Travel, may be required, including overnight, evenings, and weekends .
  • Valid Class 5 BC Driver’s Licence and possible background/vulnerable sector check.
  • Equivalent lived, cultural, and/or professional experience may be considered.
